This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Since Westpac has a storage area full of Hellcats, and jigs to restore them, is there any news on the restorations? Two may be going to the Tennessee Air Museum, it seems. Any news on where the others may be headed? Very exciting, as there are so few of them flying.

One is for Allied Fighters. The Collings Foundation's Hellcat is being used to make jigs, similar to how we had Ezell use our Corsair for the same thing. Are there anymore than the CF bird and the other three?

What (and who owns them) are there out there right now for Hellcat projects?

That is the project that The Collings Foundation aircraft is being used to make jigs for.
Several years back when a lot of the projects at Westpac were up for auction, I saw pictures of the Corsair projects (one is now the Toble aircraft) and the hellcat projects. The hellcat projects there are truly long term projects. They will be basically new build aircraft when complete. Even if someone with extensive resources (lots of cash) those projects are not fliers in the next 5 years. I am not sure how many sets of paperwork were there, but I can tell you the number of recognizable major aircraft components were significantly less than the number of stated projects.

I walked through WESTPAC Aero's hangars last summer with Alan W. and saw at least 2/12 F6Fs worth of fuselages and wings. One of them belongs to them, didn't ask who the other's were.

So I'm curious. Where did the Colling's Foundation's Hellcat stop for jigs to be made for the other Hellcat(s)?
Cheers,
Richard
