Hello all,

Does anyone have a conversion chart that shows what type of control cable this is. I know it is corrosion resistant steel but what is the strand configuration. 7X7, 7X19, or 1X19. The drawing only shows AN-RR-C-48. This is for the NA-64 Yale, so should be same as the T-6. Not coming up with anything searching the net for spec sheets.

Thanks

Patrick

Dunno about NAA, but DOUGLAS included the p/n, length, and strands per cable in Chapter 91 of the Maintenance Manuals

Pre-war and WWII manuals don't have 81 Chapters. The British might have 81 manuals for each type though or at least it seems that way with the Spitfire.
About just after the start of WWII there was a change in the format of the US manuals. Parts manuals got Illustrations. The SNJ-3/AT-6A parts manual is just a listing of parts. The SNJ-4/AT-6C and subsequent manuals all featured illustrations and became the IPC.
There were improvements in the Erection and Maint manuals as well.
It was a step toward the format of the more modern manuals of todasy.

This is the closest I can find in the database:

Quote:
AN-RR-C-43 CANC NOTICE 1
Replaced by: No Replacement
Details Cancelled 1948.10.15 CABLE; STEEL (CARBON) PREFORMED, FLEXIBLE

Not sure how 43 differs from 48. Are you sure 48 is the correct number or could it be 43? If it is 43 I might be able to get a copy, but it wouldn't be free unfortunately.

Maybe the only difference is that 43 is carbon and 48 is corrosion resistant? If it is the same as found on a T-6, why not buy it from Lance? I've found that buying from Lance is cheaper than having Aircraft Spruce make up a custom cable for instance. Of course if you have the swaging tools, you can do it yourself for a lot less.

Where does this cable go?

The current spec for aircraft control cable wire rope is MIL-DTL-83420M. If the cable in question is 1/8" or larger, according to the specification it has to be 7 X 19.

1/32 3 x 7
3/64 7 x 7
1/16 7 x 7
1/16 7 x 19
3/32 7 x 7
3/32 7 x 19
1/8 7 x 19
5/32 7 x 19
3/16 7 x 19
7/32 7 x 19
1/4 7 x 19
9/32 7 x 19
5/16 7 x 19
3/8 7 x 19

According to the specification, both carbon steel and corrosion resistant steel cables are required to meet the exact same strength requirements.
