A friend of mine is looking for a high resolution copy of the NAA official colour photo of the Mustang NA-73X prototype. There are two versions I have seen on the web, but both are low res.

Any pointers appreciated.

TIA
Dave

I don't think there was a 'high res' available in 1941, and since color film (except KODACHROME) was pretty subjective in quality and saturation from manufacturer to manufacturer back then those may be the best there are available particularly if the originals were just 'snaps' and not done professionally. Another factor could revolve around they started out as clean crisp photos and copied copies of copies and lots of generations of negatives between could have taken the sharpness of them.
Everyone seems to forget that, unless you were a professional photographer in those days 99% of photos were taken with a fixed focus 'BOX BROWNIE', some of which required mailing the entire camera back to the manufacturer to have the film removed and processed.

Have you tried contacting Boeing Historical since they now own all the archival stuff from Douglas, NAA/Rockwell, McDonnell, & COLLINS they just might have originals that are better quality.

We have plenty of 'official' photos in our archive which are copies, but are crisp and clear, so no reason why someone else hasn't one of the NAA photo. They can obviously be scanned as high res which is what I am looking for. I am not suggesting there was 'high res' in 1941, I doubt that crossed anyone's mind, it didn't mine, because that is not what I asked for. Perhaps I should have used 'scan' to stop any confusion

Boeing have a photo archive link online, but I have yet to get a response.....any one else?

regards
Dave
