Hey everyone, things have kind of quieted down over the last few weeks with the holidays going on. A meeting is being held this Saturday to discuss the future of the project due to some changes that have recently occured. Myself or Don should have some updates after that as to what has been to decided on how we proceed with the project.

Hello all,

There have been quite a few changes going on at CH2A. In late December, our longtime Project Supervisor resigned for personal reasons. Roger was a very valuable contributor over the last several years and he will be missed. We all thank him for his many years of service.

His position will be filled by a very capable Brad S. and we all welcome him to the crew.

Much has been posted and said about returning FM212 to airworthy status and that was addressed in depth during the meeting and in a subsequent Core Committee meeting last weekend. Our mandate from the city, who owns the aircraft, is to honor our veterans by restoring it to the best possible condition with the resources available. It has been brought to our attention that Avro aircraft have a spar life of 6500 hours. As FM212 has over 8000 hours of recorded operational time, it seems prudent to think that it will not fly again. However, that does not mean that we won't continue to restore and replace parts to the original specs or better. In cases where we do not have the resources or expertise to do so, the condition of said parts will be fully documented in order to address any shortcomings at a later date.

All this being said, the goal has been set of getting the aircraft out of the quonset and back into the main hanger within 2 years and to have it fully re-assembled, painted and on display by summer 2017. We have discussed and agreed to get the engines running one at a time and to mount a working engine for display as soon as possible.

Thanks for the update. I had no idea she had that many hours on her but given the fact she was used extensively for photo mapping they soon add up. Resparring a lanc in canada is not remotely possible unless someone throws millions at the group in order to have new spar material sourced,cut and machined to fit. BBMF in the UK were only able to do it with PA474 after surplus spar material was found from the Shackleton production.
You guys are doing a great job down there and you have your minds and hearts set in the right place. 2017 is a very good goal to set for yourselves and I look forward to seeing her restored and indoors after all this time!

Long overdue for an update here...

We have been finishing up the undercarriage doors and valances. The last door to be re-skinned has some damage and we have had to remove one of the ribs and re-build it. This poses quite a challenge because we really don't want to disassemble the whole thing. You can see from the pic that it is the 3rd rib in from the end.





We eventually got it out. Getting the re-built one back in will be loads of fun. Will post more pix of this mini project.

The last valance needs a re-skin as well. Dirty, dirty.
