The sun rose this morning on Stratford Connecticut. It would be the last day the old Curtiss Hangar sat abandoned and forlorn. Volunteers from the Connecticut Air & Space Center turned our in big numbers to help kick this project off.

Stratford, CT - Pictured on Saturday, November 17 2012, are members of the Connecticut Air & Space Center museum in the process of cleaning and restoring the historic Curtiss Hangar at Sikorsky Memorial Airport. The Curtiss Hanger is an integral part of Connecticut's unique aviation history, a site visited by aviation pioneers such as Charles Lindbergh, Amelia Erhart, Howard Hughes and Igor Sikorsky. The Connecticut Air & Space Center, located at 201 Sniffens Lane, Stratford, houses a large collection of aviation artifacts including a flying full-size replica of Bridgeport's Gustav Whitehead's No. 21 which flew two years before the Wright Brothers (and is celebrated by a sculpture at the intersection of Fairfield Avenue and Commerce Drive, Bridgeport recently-dedicated by Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch). The Center is presently restoring the FG-1 Corsair World War II fighter plane which was for many years displayed on a pylon at the entrance to Sikorsky Memorial Airport.

Great job start and enthusiasm , like some heritage projects ive worked on, its a hard slog to restore from a dirty decaying state but once you get there in long run, this hangar should look great.. after much effort and money spent on it.

Anyone with a spare 50k or a good contact at a roofing distributor would be held in high regard at the CASC...

I'd personally like to thank all my fellow Casc members for the back breaking work sat. The history and the people we all worked with made it very special that day. It seemed liked nobody wanted to call it quits! Special thank you to Drew for the pizza break and soda which hit the spot. Another shout out to Chris S.,( aka Warbird Kid,) for helping me with the Chance-Vought symbol and shirts. I can already imagine rolling that corsair inside, having numerous warbirds fly in for the day to say hello and hanging out with some of the most wonderful people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing for several years!

Ask the airport tenant to move it to the back of the hangar and keep pictures of the hangar cleanup infront of it
