I saw the new issue of air comics and there was a story about the polished P-40C at Chino having flown back in August and not a word about it on here.

Because, unfortunately, there is very little warbird information exchanged here anymore...I was at Chino the evening it was rolled out...there were people at Chino that had no idea it existed.

I do remember reading something about it here, though!

Wow -- Matt's right -- it may have been mentioned, but if so I missed it too, and it should have been a huge unmissable thread.

I do remember it beign mentioned right after the POF Show. But nothing since and yes, we do need more on it!

Maybe it needs to be buried in the Outback and have ten Australians fighting over it! :axe:

OK....I'm gonna' go ahead and say this although I KNOW I'm gonna' have to "duck and cover".

I think many, myself included, are suffering from various stages of warbird "burnout". After all, there is a finite number of WWII (my main interest) airplanes out there and once one gets past all the tail numbers, Bu Nos, histories, and all the other minutiae regarding them, how much more exciting can it get?
Right now I'm not at all anxious to attend airshows for quite some time.
I'm still interested in a lot of the information that comes from the site. I like to learn new stuff but I can only look at so many P-51s, P-40s, Spitfires, etc. (you get the idea).

OK....Rant off...I gotta' get off these steroids.

Mudge the cranky :hide:

Well better late than never. That is fanatastic. Now if someone would polish a P-39 like that we be set.

That is a gorgeous plane! I've never seen an aluminum finish P-40 before. :supz:

The military needs to turn camouflage duties over to us civilians. I'm sick of drab paint. If you need camouflage, you're losing the air war. Let's rock some color!

I knew it existed, but didn't know that it was going to be on static display at the airshow.

It is currently in one of the POF hangars for the public to see while the test flight hours are being flown off. TFC is usually pretty secretive about their new restorations so I was surprised to see it out in public before its Duxford debut.

The folks that built it did a fantastic job on it.

You are not that far off Mudge...BUT there are tons of stories and aircraft that are evolving everyday. I took a long break from this site when the trolls started taking over. I can put my finger on why WIX is going down the tubes, but why? TEN years ago Ryan Keough posted a thread for Collings, I would have never known they needed someone without this forum. To Scott and Ryan, I owe them everything...but WIX ain't what it used to be.

Stories abound...DB engines seem to be coming out of the woodwork, as well as 109 projects, there is a Corsair going together in Livermore, a new P-51B is being finished in Idaho, a P-40 in Ocala, a Mustang at the Green Swamp. You can't tell me there is no information to exchange or share. This stuff is just the tip of the iceberg. A good friend of mine recently got his formation card in a 51 and is doing shows in the south...but he can't stand this site and all the BS. I can't say I blame him, heck the spinner is probably the wrong color.

I read over on the Flypast Forum that it had been flown but I've yet to see pictures of the event on ANY of the sites I regularly visit. How is that possible in the "Internet age"?

It was discussed here when it was unveiled. It's no secret photo threads are the most reviewed here, which this P-40 was under in a POF 2012 Airshow photo thread. Judging by Jim's photo's it was Jim who posted them. WIX, (especially the Main Hangar page) has new threads constantly. Meaning you can post a new thread and by the end of the day it could be on the third page. So you have to be constantly checking everyday and going through all the newly highlighted threads to see all the relevant information. While it may not have been mentioned on more than seven threads, I still think thats pretty good. And the P-40 was also covered in Warbirds International and Air Classics, but I understand many enthusiasts shun these two publications. But it definitely was discussed here.

Jim,

I'm sorry to hear about your waining interest in WIX nowadays. Maybe your right. Maybe there were more quality postings "back in the day" but I just simply cant share your sentiment. I come to WIX almost daily and learn or see something new, everyday. That is in my eyes, a truly powerful and important tool. If there are better avenues that people have found to discuss and share info, then all the best to them. But WIX as I see it, is a great vehicle for wanting to know all about this passion. People can be insensitive, petty, jealous, or just plain ignorant. It's a sad part of our culture, and more importantly part of humanity. This extends to the internet effortlessly. It's easy to post something that will offend or aggravate someone else, and then retreat back to the shadowy comforting veil of anonymity.

This is not just apart of WIX but of the internet in it's entirety. For one I believe the moderators do one HECK of a bang up job with keeping this board civilized and mostly on track. But we also sometimes tend to believe that there are more deconstructive conversations happening here, then there are constructive. And yes you will always have people being who they are. But for me personally, I just skip right over these posts. I think you have to in order to get to the relevant information your looking for. Why add to the un-relevant conversation when you could just ignore it? That's my take on it.

Jim's right and I find myself becoming more of a lurker as well... And that's a common sentiment that I've heard numerous times and as lately as at the Wings Over Houston airshow from the guys who have good stuff and information to share. I personally think that a lot of the problem is that we need to show more respect in general. I saw a threat over on the air racing forum where to well known guys were going at it on a topic, but no one seemed to have hurt feelings in the end because it was done respectfully.

Just my two cents.

Ryan
