I think everything is cyclic. Our interests wax and wane depending on what else is going on in our world. I was a frequent lurker / occasional poster starting in 2004 until I got involved with Jack Kosko's TBM restoration. Suddenly, I had something to post about.

As far as "WIX ain't what it used to be". I disagree. Granted, some of the more colorful personalities have left the forum due to a variety of circumstances. I think other people have stepped up. Most of the threads are still very informative and the pictures are often unique. Look at Taigh's PV-2 restoration thread, for example. That particular thread is as good as any we've ever had on the forum. We tend to always look backwards with rose colored glasses. I think WIX is still the best forum of its type on the internet.

Jim, Jim, Jim... you truly don't pay attention to WIX, do you? It's not the color of the spinner that's at issue here, it's the color of the inside of the main landing gear doors. Come on, dude, get with the program!

Without Wix (and Col. Rohr) I would have never met Jerry, Chris or the Corsair. This site has it's moments but over all I think alot of good discussion happens here even now. Some shops are way more silents as well as owners specficly requiring or requesting that their projects not be on display on Wix or the Internet in general. Where was all the coverage of the Ilyushin Il-2 Rebuild in Russia? everyone here was surprised when that story broke.

I enjoy all of the in-fighting amongst the troops. It gives me a chuckle while at work. pop2

Those are the first images of that "paint scheme" that I have seen. Thanks for posting the thread. It doesn't get much cooler than that! A bare metal early P-40 in pre-war markings? Seriously, that just re-defined "cool warbird" as far as I'm concerned.

No doubt, the trolls have taken their toll in the last few years but are we just going to sit around here and let them win? I still enjoy WIX way too much to bail out just because a few trolls come out from under the bridge from time to time. After my last encounter with some trolls, I decided to look in on Scott's thread "Ignoring Trolls". Sure, it's nice to know what that "Friend/Foe" thingy did but somehow that's just too simple. Let's be honest, most of us have at least a little bit of troll in us so we should not expect to be banned from WIX just because we decided that in some cases, the best way to fight trolls is to become one for a moment. I have an idea that might help. Who knows, it might even provide Scott and the WIX entity with a small source of funding. I'll jump over to Scott's "Ignoring Trolls" thread topic to explain but first, we should know and understand the enemy and there are at last report, 18 different troll species.

I've been on this forum for just at 5 years and don't recall ever seeing any your postings in that time. I came here, and stay here for the wealth of information I can gather, and for the little bits of information I can impart, I may or may not move along as time passes but the general crowd here now is diverse enough, as it always has been to suit me and I enjoy the information flow.
The forum has, and is evolving every day as it's a living thing, people come and go, some by choice, some by circumstance, some are run off. Interests and situations are always evolving, work or family gets in the way.
I look at this forum as alive and vibrant thanks to it's changing and ever evolving make up thanks in large part to it's flexible cast of characters. My suggestion is if you want a never changing, never varying forum go find the one for the Daughters of the American Revolution, one of those overly pompous and stuffy English forums, or the GERITOL Users forum.
I am so sorry you had runny eggs, cool coffee, and greasy bacon this morning and that caused you to go find your cranky pants and then put in a cameo appearance to vent at the forum. If you're out that's your decision and no one here can impact your decision but I personally don't appreciate being slapped in the face with a wall paper brush by someone I've never heard of. I wish you all the best in whatever your future endeavours may be.

I've started another thread, as this one is deteriorating into yet another WIX moanfest (one of the reasons that, along with many others, I don't post much here any longer). You only have to look at the title. Instead of asking about the P-40, it asks "What is up with Wix?"

And the Corsair, CASC and all of us here in CT would not have met you or been infused with your energy and leadership!
Thank you Drew! :supz:

(this post is addressed to everyone, not just one person)

So you don't like what WIX has become? Here is the solution... Three steps to do your part to fix WIX...

1. If you know something, news perhaps or have a new cool photo of some restoration or the like, POST IT.
2. If someone posts something you find interesting, post a reply saying THANK-YOU.
3. If you have a question... ASK IT.

I really should have said there were four steps.

4. DO ALL OF THIS WITH RESPECT OF THE OTHER PERSON LIKE YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE TREATED. The only stupid question is one that is not asked. So if someone asks a fairly common newbie question politely point them to a thread where the subject was discussed. If someone paints some friggin spinner the wrong colour... well... thank-them for keeping it flying then maybe... just maybe... politely suggest a better shade of green (or whatever colour).

If I were to add a step 5 it would be stay in the scope of the thread. If you feel your post is diverging from the scope start a new thread. All you need to do is click the "New Thread" button.

Perhaps a step 6 could be... if you feel your blood pressure rising... for Pete's sake go for a walk, watch a good movie or go take a nap. What ever you do don't click that submit button until you have chilled out.

Mike

If there's a waning interest in WIX lately, maybe it's because of the economy and we are too busy looking for jobs or we can't pay for internet access anymore to surf this site. ;)

I was concerned about the shade of black used for the serial #...
