Great plane as I worked around one summer at a bush operation in Ontario. Wooden spars and wings that are fabric covered. If I remember correctly it flies faster than an Otter but does not have the same payload. Each year in Red Lake, Ontario they have the Norseman Floatplane Festival to celebrate the plane and what it did for opening up the north. http://www.norsemanfestival.on.ca I have one cousin who uses the plane to ferry people into there remote lodge for fishing . http://www.birchlakelodge.com Another is a Canadian Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) same as a A&P in the US. Talked to him and if I even need a set of wings he said he would build them for me. My dream plane!

I was there at Red Lake this summer. Good fun!

There were 5 Norseman in the flypast, but here were 2 of them -- the one on the left is brand new.



This was in the Main Street. They wheeled over a set of Norseman floats, and had a pumping-out contest.

CF-BSC on the left is an ex-Austin Airways Norseman flying with them for 25 years. In 71 Austin sold BFC and it went through various owners eventually being donated to the Canadian Museum of Flight 1983. The CMF restored and displayed BSC at Expo 86 and after Expo was over, it went into storage. There was talk for a while at the museum to get BSC flying again but this never happened and it was eventually sold.

It sort of vanished off the face of the earth for a while and I wondered what ever happened after leaving the museum. Nice to see that CF-BSC has been restored and is flying again.
