Which, of course, begs the question, Dave, of what happened to the rest of it? Was there enough recovered to bring another extinct type back to life?

Sticking with the Hs129, most will know that no complete example is currently on display. The cockpit section of the aircraft evaluated at Wright Field is currently in the care of Martin Mednis in Sydney. I visited in 1999. Martin was just beginning to fit out the cockpit.

There is supposed to be an intact example in a now dry reservoir in Tunisia (ditching is documented). Tentative investigations have been underway for some years, with little progress AFAIK.

Sadly a wreck was discovered and scrapped in Russia back in the mid-late 1990's as those who found it didn't realise what they had......

Mike

The group that recovered it suggest that there is more of the aircraft there, the armoured cockpit section is sure to have survived (ala IL-2). So fingers crossed that a substantial amount remains......a 'cool' aircraft, if not too attractive.

Hi Dave - PM sent. Thanks for the challenge on this one. It would be great if one of these rare aircraft could be recovered.
