I actually got a 150K quote from Tallichet's group back in 2006 for a fiberglass Corsair without landing gear. Pretty steep. I've always liked the sculpture idea, much more artistic for the entrance to the most historically significant aviation site in the state.

Frank, Geneseo's F6F is fiberglass. I think you might be referring to the Hellcat on the wind-Tee at Andrews AFB. That is real and out in the weather!

Thanks Jerry. I know ideas are easy, but it's possible to get a local artist and a local company to sponsor a pedestal sculpture that can be cost free to your organisation, while they get local PR and benefits. Takes some organising, but it can (and has) been done.

Whatever route works though, good luck.

This past Saturday, after we finished cleaning up the hangar, I went over and saw the un-wrapped Corsair for the first time. I had only visit it when it returned once and it was still shrink wrapped then.

Amazing job being done on it! Here's a before and after comparison of just one small area on the airframe. Great job done by Ezell and CASC!

OFFICIAL STATEMENT

The Connecticut Air & Space Center's Board of Directors are currently working with Sikorsky Memorial Airport management in the acquisition of a Corsair Replica to be mounted on the pedestal at the Airport. Issues delayed this from about a year ago but we are hoping to get that project back on track. This project is separate from the Hangar Restoration and the Restoration of the FG1-D Corsair. Dovetailing into JDKs idea, instead of a 'plank on frame' mockup type replica, how about having a local artist do a frame and rib skeleton sculpture from CRES? It would last forever, be distinctive and, be simpler than all those curved surfaces, kinda like a GUILLOW stick and tissue kit before covering. Locally we have a '1% for art' program wherein 1% of the cost of building or renovating a structure requires that that amount be invested in public art for the project, which explains the huge CRES armature copy of a boulder in front of 'The Clink' (Century Link Field) where the SEAHACKS play in Seattle.(next to the stadium for the Moronors basebore 'team')

One big issue with any sort of composite outside display item is it suffers horribly from UVA and UVB plus bird infestation. I was thinking along the lines of your exhibit 'B' with a few more details and in CRES, and an open structure without hiding places for nesting birds, it would last indefinitely.
