No one knows me here, and it's just my humble opinion;
I couldn't care less if the airplane originally did it's wartime service in Russia, because I don't like Russian markings on US airplanes. Cultural. I hated it on the CAF Bells, I'd hate it on the P-40 too. I'd rather it be gloss red with chrome gear, than Russian. A nice RAF scheme would be gorgeous, though.
Long nose P-40 with an authentic AVG scheme? Perfection.
I'm happy with the decision.

Let the Russians paint the P-40's they restore in Russian markings. They have more of them.

Care to elaborate mustangdriver please? AFAIK, there is no complete P-40 preserved in Russia. Thanks!

There may not be any P-40's preserved in Russia, but there are P-40 airframes still in Russia. Dave Tallichet told us years ago that there was so much of that lend lease stuff there it wasn't funny. He was telling us that as he was unloading a P-40 into our hangar that he recovered from Russia.

It used to be we whined about a paint job not being historically accurate. Now we whine about them not being historically accurate for a particular airframe. What will we whine about when owners start doing the latter? I'm sure we will find something. :roll:

I don't think it matters as I don't see fit that these fly.
But if it's going to be a museum piece then thats a tough call.
I guess it depends.
But more then likely warbirds today will be painted in well known units of ww2.
Rather then paint it accurately to a unit of no interest.
I don't agree with it.
If there are other examples in the world then paint it like it was.
No fakes please.

I believe it. Just think what might still be out there- P-39s, P-63s, P-40s, B-25s, Hurricanes, and possbily a P-47? I'm reading Glines book on the Doolittle Raid right now and I wonder what happened to the B-25 that landed in Vladivistok (sp?)

Thanks for sharing! Your hand-painted nose art looks 1,000x better than the airbrushed art found on most of today's warbirds. Fine work!

Mick did the FHC's P-40 sharkmouth freehand, saw him working a crossword puzzle years ago using a fountain pen while getting ready to finish the puzzle on a rollercoaster. :lol:
