A number of years ago at my Grandfather's funeral I met one of his long-time friends, John Thomas. I discovered that he had been a flight instructor in WWII, and later flew Sabres in the 1950s. Fortunately he knew how to use a camera. Shortly after I met him I borrowed some of his slides and had some copy negatives made. Unfortunately time has not been good to the negatives, so the scans I presented here are as good as it is going to get. I think you will enjoy them anyway.

Here are Johns photos...

Do you want to find locations of displayed, stored or active aircraft? Then start with the The Locator.
Do you want to find or contribute to the documented history of an aircraft? If so then start with the Airframes Database.

Hi Mike,
Thanks a bunch for posting the photos.
Really great.
The Kenting photos were outstanding.
Thanks again.

I am glad you guys liked them. Bob Wheelans deserves a bunch of credit for the Kenting photos. He had a passion for Warbirds even before the term was coined. For the background on the Kenting photos look for an article in issue #4 of Warbird Digest.

That "ASW" aircraft is a Fairey Gannet. Our friends across the pond would say it is an "AEW" aircraft.

Go to...

You think it looks funny?

You ought to see it's wing-fold sequence...up into a "z" shape!

I might beg to differ on that! ASW = Anti Submarine Warfare (I think), whereas AEW = Airborne Early Warning. Two completely different roles!
