Warbird Information Exchange

I've never been there b ut I'm a big fan of the W-R museum.
They have a great collection of helicopters, IIRC a rare HH-43A (a piston Huskie, a USAF HOK) and HH-34 (ex-USN operated by the Reserves).

I also Got Gen. Scott to sign my book. It's a early edition but without dust cover.

It was indeed, Lance, and thanks again for that! (Lee Bishop here, by the way). I just pulled that book out of the bookcase and it was 1995. I can't recall what event I was on way back from at the time but I know I was coming back from the last re-enactment events I went to in the South, as soon after that I went back to school and enrolled in ROTC, which paused my re-enacting for quite a while...
I never forgot that. Sometimes the subject comes up at airshows and such, and I'll still tell folks about meeting him.

Good to hear from you Lee. He was indeed, a great, giant of a man. A true Southern gentleman to the end. He'd talk to everyone and sign anything. I once escorted him from WR to Athens, GA (About 1.5 hours each way) for a UGA WWII Symposium. He never repeated a topic and talked the entire way. The world lost a great one when he passed.

Was it one of the Camp Blanding re-enactments? Or the gun club near Homassasa? I remember driving my 44 MB down the highway to pick up some eats. There were 4 of us with 2 Stens, 1 Thompson, M-1 Carbine, and a British 2" mortar strapped to the hood. A cop pulled us over because he couldn't see my license plate. His eyes were huge when he saw all the gear we had. I stepped out, showed him the tag and he went his merry way. We laughed our asses off.
