The C-123 was used heavily during the Vietnam War to transport troops and supplies. It was also used for aerial spraying of herbicides, including Agent Orange. The federal government says the risk of exposure to Agent Orange residue is extremely low.

This is good news. The Museum really needs a C-123 to go with the C-119 and C-82.

I was there about 4 years or so ago to see the C-119 arrive on its final flight, and hopefully I will be there to see the arrival of the C-123 when it comes in the future to join the collection.

The SAD thing about this is that it appears that just like the Flying Boxcar and the Packet, the Provider will be made ready for ONE last flight and then will become a static display forever. Really a shame these classic transports will not fly again at any air shows.

museum's website, FAA records show that the plane is currently registered to
Fly High Holdings International LLC of Lewes, DE. However, the museum
reportedly approached the U.S. Treasury Department about purchasing the
airplane, which was approved. The model was extensively used during the
Vietnam war as a troop and supply transport aircraft with the ability to
operate from unimproved airfields.


According to the museum website, the airplane would be displayed beside
examples of the C-82 and C-119 already in its possession. Of the 19 aircraft
the museum owns, 13 were built in Hagerstown. The museum says its ongoing
mission is to preserve Hagerstown’s unique ninety-year aviation
heritage.


The museum has put out an appeal for the $70,000 it says it needs to acquire
the Provider and fly it from Florida to Maryland. The Hagerstown Aviation
Museum, Inc. is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization, making contributions
towards acquisition of the airplane tax deductible.


N681 DG = 54-0681

Does this collection of Fairchild aircraft sit outside at the museum or are they under cover?

Didnt both the C-82 and the C-119 come from Hawkins & Powers?

The aircraft are inside. I got this "straight from the horses mouth" when we went to work on the TBM today at Hagerstown Air Services. They seemed pretty jazzed about the C-123 acquisition, too.

The gentleman at Hagerstown Air Services said that Treasury would not tell them how or why they got the bird other than it definitely wasn't a drug seizure. I guess that leaves unpaid taxes as the other possibility?
