AVRO BOMBER PRESERVATION ASSOCIATION

The Association has been negotiating for the last 10 months for the purchase of the dis-assembled Avro Lincoln RF342, and remains of Cockpit etc of Avro Lancaster KB976/994 Ex-Sandtoft in the UK, and are now able to publicly confirm an organisation exists, and project is underway to acquire those items and recover them to Australia for Static Display purposes.

The Avro Bomber Preservation Association Incorporated
Australian Business Number 53 043 131 472

The existence of this organisation can be confirmed at www.abr.business.gov.au

Entering the ABN number above into the website above will confirm both the registration of this not for profit association as a "Charitable Institution", and the tax deductible Gift Recipient status has also been achieved.

PURPOSE

To promote the role of the Avro Lancaster and Avro Lincoln in Australia’s Aviation Heritage.

To preserve and educate on Australian’s involvement with the Avro Lancaster in RAF Bomber Command in Europe in World War 2, and Australian’s involvement in the construction and operation of the Avro Lincoln in Australasia post World War 2.

To raise funds for, and to support the collection and restoration of parts and artefacts of the Avro Lancaster and Avro Lincoln Bomber aircraft for eventual display in a recognised National Aviation Museum.

To specifically support the acquisition, donation and display of:
An Avro Lancaster Cockpit and fuselage
An Avro Lincoln Aircraft

We would ask all Australian Aviation Enthusiasts interested in supporting such an outcome to "cut & past" this information and email it to your friends etc so that anyone interested in supporting such an outcome can assist us in our urgent need to complete fundraising of our 1st instalment of a non-refundable deposit.

OUR PROJECT:

We have negotiated the opportunity to purchase via a 2 part holding deposit, and 12 month payment plan, the dis-assembled Avro Lincoln RF342, and remains of Cockpit and fuselage etc of Avro Lancaster KB976/994 from the creditors of the former Sandstoft Aviation Museum in the UK.

Our focus is to utilise RF342 to create a complete but static display of a GAF Lincoln as built in Australia and flown in service with the RAAF, (these were licence built Avro B2 Lincolns of which RF342 is a British built example) therefore our intention is to display the aircraft in either mark 30 or mark 31 cockpit configuration, we have a number of cockpit options to explore, and at this stage are investigating suggestions a long nose cockpit still remains in Australia, However the need for us to negotiate or explore cockpit outcomes does not exist if we don’t successfully acquire the dis-assembled components of RF342.

Our group is primarily a fundraising and acquisition entity, we do not intend to provide the manpower for restoration and display, nor does this group intend to establish its own new museum.

Two existing museums are intended to be the recipients of these parts, the Association will continue to fundraise etc to support the further acquisition of parts etc, further details regarding those plans will be forthcoming later.

But at this stage I can confirm our Association has been receiving support form the Australian National Aviation Museum at Moorabbin and if we are successful our intentions are the Lincoln will be offered to that organisation for donation, restoration and static display, our objective being to provide ongoing support to gather parts/funding to achieve a complete static restoration.

This Museum was chosen given its focus on preserving Australia's aviation manufacturing heritage and existing collection policy, and collection of DAP/GAF aircraft suits the Lincoln addition, and arrangements between both parties have been explored.

WEBSITE
http://aarg.com.au/Avro_group.htm

We have the objective of the Lancaster cockpit and fuselage forming an interesting cockpit or fuselage display, but at this stage are not committing to a full Lancaster static outcome as two already exist in the National Collection in Australia, it is our intention that the Lancaster parts will be offered for donation to the RAAF Museum, for eventual preservation and display at Point Cook.

“We are honoured to be invited to support The Avro Bomber Preservation Association Incorporated, to acquire an Avro Lincoln and the Lancaster remains from the UK”

“We see these important aircraft filling a void in the nation’s aviation collections. The concept to bring them here fits seamlessly with Flightpath’s philosophy and values of preserving and displaying our rich aviation history, for all to see……Now is the time for our readers, enthusiasts and former crews to put their hand up to assist this great cause and join with me and FLIGHTPATH to be involved as a financial sponsor and supporter”. OUR FUNDRAISING:

We have raised and held for over 10 months an initial fund of over $10,000 AUD, however competition from other bidders and delays in our own project have caused us to restructure our proposal without increasing the total price.

We are therefore urgently fundraising to complete our 1st instalment of the non-refundable holding deposit, and are trying to raise a further $15,000 AUD by the end of September, we already hold more than that in our existing fundraising, we are seeking significant cash/cheque and EFT donations in the order of $100 to $500 to complete this fundraising by the target date to avoid our option expiring. (30 donors of $500 meets our current target!)

If we do not raise this money by the end of September and transfer it to the UK we will loose our option to buy and the aircraft will return for sale to others already bidding.

If we do not gain sufficient support in this fundraising drive to be confidently able to proceed to full purchase we will not proceed and return all moneys to the donors.

If we do proceed we will as a registered charitable institution issue receipts to all donors and continue with ongoing fundraising towards our second instalment and 12 month progressive payments.

Future fundraising will open up to lower donations below $50, and pledge payments based on $1/day arrangements.

We would welcome anyone collecting monies on our behalf and ask that they use the attached form to record the names, addresses and details of donation amount and forward these records and payment to us urgently by any means available.

The simplest method of lodging a donation to us, is to make an over the counter or online EFT transfer direct into our Bank Account.

Over the counter bank deposits of cash, cheque or money order is available to any person by simply entering any Westpac branch and completing and lodging a standard manual deposit slip, please remember to identify any donations with your name and provide an email or postal copy of your records of transaction so we can return unspent monies, or provide a tax certified receipt of donation!

Westpac Branches are normally open until 4.30 – 5pm weekdays and many are open until 12 midday on Saturday, please take the opportunity to make a donation this coming Saturday morning 24th of September before we loose this wonderful opportunity.

Please call or email if you propose an alternative payment method such as Paypal?

We are continuing to call for funds from both locally in Australia and overseas,

Please feel free to down load the attached document and email it to collegues and other enthusiasts.

For those pverseas who wish to Paypal I have tried to create a Paypal account but that requires a credit card to be created on our charitable entiy and our bank will not permit that, if you wish I can take a paypal through my own paypal account please PM or email Me for details.

The simplist method for overseas donation is Electronic Transfer direct into our account via online banking or over the counter transfer at your own bank, see details below.

A word document version of this can be downloaded at the KP forum on thread

Please feel free to circulate this to anyone else you feel may be willing to support this project.

For those Interested,

Here is the Current Situation,

At this stage the project is stalled due to an "underwhelming" level of donations being received, despite the significant donations by a small number of people we did not reach our fundraising targets.

We are however still in contact with the seller and we are hopeful that the recent coverage in many magazines etc might lift the donations, and that many earlier promised donations may still yet materialise, but without the donations and support of the wider population of Australian Avation Enthusiasts this rare opportunity will be lost.

For those who do take an interest in this project, please cut and paste these details, circulate this to as many friends/collegues as possible, and consider making a donation, your efforts can make a difference!

Thanks also to Bruce Gordon for his significant support on the ground in the UK.

Thanks to those who did donate, we have not yet issued tax receipts due to the uncertainty facing the project at this point.

If we do not gain sufficient support in this fundraising drive to reach the deposit target or be confidently able to proceed to full purchase, we will not proceed and return all moneys to the donors.

The pics of KB994 are from our museum collection but I want to clear things up on this. The nose section is with Jeremy Hall in the uk and the cockpit is the lanc ockpit still at sadntoft. The centre section is also at sandtoft and the rear fuilseage went to florida for kermits project to rebuild the original KB976.
