Anyone need a real ME 163 for their collection?

Sounds very suspect. The known survivors are all well documented, and the only one in private hands is Paul Allen's, which he paid IIRC $1m+ for to IWM Duxford.

Calling Dave M2...........

You can even buy a "genuine" He162 to go with it

Funny how WkNr 220006 doesn't appear on the known survivors lists either...........

I don't like how specifically they quoted the percentage of original hardware down to the tenth! It seems ridiculous. 98.7% original? What's it bloody well matter?

Buyer/bidder beware! It would be interesting to see what information could be dug up about the aircraft in the photograph, and same with the HE162.

Peace,

David

Funny that the seller doesn't know that it's rocket-powered, not "a jet."

I remember the He162. It's a replica, but I believe built to original specs.

"I'm not a real broker, I just play one on TV".

The "I'm selling this for a friend" or "I'm representing the company" in the case of the He162 definitely throws up some flags. Also, how would one know that the rocket engine is fully functional? From what I recall, you had to mix two very volatile chemicals together to get the rocket to fire. I can't believe anyone would voluntarily try this. I also find it hard to believe any sane person would actually want to fly a Me163 given their volatility and having to land like a glider with just a ski for your landing gear.

I guess the question is...if this is a fake, which Me163 is this?

The Me.162 is labled as "authenic" which I will take as a clue.

"authenic" means, to me at least, just like the original, while "genuine" means the real thing - it is original. Unfortunately, like "replica" and "reproduction" the distinctions are not commonly appreciated, and I think the meaning might vary according to context.

So, the Me.162 being offered is, if being accurately presented as "authenic," a very good reproduction (not a replica) built as close as reasonably possible to the original design.

To answer another question that someone will pose, "replica" to at least some people refers to a copy made by the original builders or company, and is used (or should be used) to distinguish it from a copy built by others. If the Messerschmitt company were in 2012 to build a Me.162 then it is a copy, yes, but also really is a Messerschmitt 162, a "replica." If Smith and Jones build a copy of a Me.162 it can never be a Messerschmitt 162 because it was not built by Messerschmitt: it is a Smith and Jones.162, a reproduction. The distinction seems subtle, but such a distinction is needed. Also, not that neither "replica" nor "reproduction" in this usage provides information on how good the coy might be. The replica built by Messerschmitt could be built from cardboard while the reproduction could be quite authenic.

According to my dictionary, "authentic" means "of undisputed origin; genuine."

Not sure what "authenic" means...

Dan K referred to a couple youtube sites and the aircraft videos were by Sandyair. I checked them out and you should too. Aircraft recovery and repair from Austria and seem to be almost on par with Meier Motors.
