I've been in the same situation. I've had to abort the landing entirely and divert to an alternate because photographers encroached on the rollout path.

Checkout the 2:50 point in this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BLo95DgR0I

I was hoping to land the Tiger Moth on the ice. But the ruts made me doubt my ability to hold it dead-straight during the roll-out. And as you can see, there were people everywhere with entirely too much faith in a taildragger's directional control.

So I departed.

There is a tendency for photographers to see the world only through the camera lens. This makes fine pictures, no doubt, and such devotion is admirable, but common sense would advise a little discretion. No pilot is perfect, and no taildragger can be absolutely relied upon to roll straight.

Vigilum Caveat,

Dave

Kinda reminds me of that Caribbean island where people stand on the beach just off the end of the runway and the airliners pass a few feet over their heads on landing. It might be a "rush" for some people to flirt with disaster like that, but it's way too risky for me. Because aviation accidents happen so rarely (in comparison with the number of flights that take place each day/week/month/year/whatever) it's easy for people to become complacent and be lulled into thinking that it's safe to be *that* close to the action, and this is especially true for people outside the aviation world because they don't think about the what-ifs of flying. No photograph, no matter how cool, is worth putting yourself in harm's way.

That's St. Maarten. A tourist trade has been built around that end of the runway. Just to side of the beach is a large bar, where after several Red Stripes or Heineken's you'd be bold enough to run under a landing KLM -400. The sandblast from the KLM departure is just awesome......ooops, did I show my hand?
