My vote is for the H-19. I had a couple of rides in one during early 1960's and it has always stuck with me. Also B-47, C-119, and CWH PBY (which always got my attention at air shows)...

Neal Melton's P-47D-40-RA "Hun Hunter XVI"

The USAAF received this aircraft as 44-90460 in May, 1945.
The name, unit ID and colors, etc. as now displayed and flown at the Tennessee Museum of Aviation were chosen to honor Lt. Col. Gil Wyman of the 57th Fighter Group, 65th Fighter Squadron.

The first "warbird" I saw fly a demo was a P-47 that toured a few former P-47 bases in Europe in 1963. I was fortunate to be stationed at a base in France which was on the tour schedule. I've favored P-47s since the day I saw the demo. Incidently, that very aircraft is now displayed in the NMUSAF as "Fiery Ginger"

My favorite specific warbird is B-17G Flying Fortress s/n 44-8543, Chuckie. I don't get to crew her any more, but I still love her!

One of the greatest experiences of my life was doing an air-to-air photo shoot of Chuckie in December, 2010.



She's in really great hands now, but I miss her a lot.

My favourite warbird is FHC´s Fw 190 A-5. Why? Not because it is German. But because it was one of the best fighters when it entered the stage operationally, it was a versatile plane, and it was one of the smallest airframes for a radial engine, looking quite cute. And it is one of a kind, the only one airworthy. And one of the ground attack versions (A-5/U3). Very few static in existence as well. Though from the looks the -D models (and Ta-152´s) appear to have a "sexier" look, I believe the A-models to be the better dogfighter, at least in medium and low level operation (and there is no airworthy / flying D around). One plus for FHC´s A-5 is it´s very thorough restoration. As original as possible. I hope to see it in person some time, when I´ll get the opportunity (it´s all about the money, lol).

Grumman/General Motors Eastern FM-2 Bu. No. 55585, former NX681S of the CAF, which I sponsored and flew for many years until its loss in a fatal accident a few years ago. I am happy to know that it is currently under restoration. The "Wilder Wildcat" was my favorite warbird to fly and display at air shows. The Focke Wulf FW-189. It looks like it would be fascinating to fly. It was designed by Kurt Tank in 1937. It was way ahead of it's time.
