As your unofficial WIX financial advisor, I strongly suggest you revisit your magazine buying strategy. The newstand price is $8.99 plus almost a buck sales tax where most of you live. If you subscribe, it is under $5.00 an issue for a 2-year sub. Awhile back when the wickens were ripping on Air Classics, some guy was bragging about how he reads it for free at the newstand. I just laughed at that guy. AC is less than 3 bucks a month delivered to my door. Unless that guys lives on top of the B&N store, he paid more to go read it for free than I do subscribing to it.

My best advice: 1) Buy warbirds. They are your best investment. 2) Commit to a magazine or two, and take out a long term subscription.

Hmmm....and here I am in STL overnight and thought I'd go looking for this issue tonight at B&N. At least I'm glad to know these won't be available over the counter anymore.

I wouldn't call a 'one issue purchase' a bargain, by any stretch. $14.14 to my door......only because 'Obie' is a close friend, and fellow Fighter Factory pilot.

He was also the guy who originally checked me out in a T-6/SNJ. I studied the manual and he placed me in the rear seat. Following the requisite airwork, and 8 take-offs and landings, he turned me loose.

Bravo Rob. I said this over on a Corvette forum where guys were bellyaching about how a certain magazine allegedly covers one Corvette generation more than another. If you can't get a magazine at a bookstore...Subscribe! It gives you something to look forward to when you go to the mailbox. Getting a magazine online? Please! There is still something to be said for honest-to-God paper and ink magazines (and books) that you can flop on the couch with or take to the bathroom. The more people bellyaching about what this magazine does or that magazine does not do and choose not to buy either of them.....then pretty soon there won't be any magazines out there to bellyache about.

Before that happens I need a *long term* place to live.... Only seen one NRA magazine in the past 12 months....Won't be renewing that membership either..

Magazines actually make very little from over the counter sales- I think about 50% of the cover price once distributors and the stores themselves take a cut.

The only think that keeps 'niche' magazines going is subscriptions. We only send about 1,000 copies of CW to the US for distribution through Barnes & Noble. We loose money on this, once the horrendous shipping is factored in from NZ. The only reason we do it is to publicise the mag and hopefully get readers to subscribe.

We are also considering electronic versions- once again to combat the ever increasing postal costs- however it will definitley NOT mean that hard copies are on the way out. As Chappie states, there is nothing like the 'real deal'. Spend all day looking at darn puter type things already!
