Does anyone know the ID of the C-119 that is/was at Geneseo? I think it is ex. RCAF.

Mike,

The C-119G at Geneseo is c/n 10678, ex-RCAF 22103, N8092.

I am trying to confirm where the RCAF C-119s were built. Alwyn Lloyd's new book: "Fairchild C-82 Packet and C-119 Flying Boxcar" indicates they were produced by Kaiser-Frazer at Willow Run. The internet sources that I have checked are contridictory. Also, the actual number and USAF serial numbers of all Willy's/Kaiser-Frazer built Flying Boxcars is in doubt. Any help you can provide would be most helpful.

Todd

Thanks Todd. You da man!

Here are some s/n / c/n tie-ups for the RCAF C-119s...
22101/10676
22102/10677
22103/10678
22104/10735
22105/10736
22106/10737
22107/10738
22108/10773
22109/10774
22110/10775
22111/10776
22112/10823
22113/10824
22114/10825
22115/10859
22116/10860
22117/10861
22118/10870
22119/10871
22120/10872
22121/10905
22122/10906
22123/10907
22124/10908
22125/10942
22126/10943
22127/10944
22128/10945
22129/10954
22130/10955
22131/10956
22132/10957
22133/10992
22134/10993
22135/10994

This info is from Griffin's book. There is nothing about where they were built. There are TOS and SOS dates, but I doubt this would help you.

I'll ask on an email list I belong to about the RCAF C-119s.

Mike

I got a reply from that email list already. Here is what was said...

Quote:
I don't know where they were built, but to add to the s/n and c/n
tie-ups you posted on that site, I can add that the first three had USAF
serials:
22101 51-2687
22102 51-2688
22103 51-2689

As far as I've been able to determine, the rest did not receive USAF
serials. I know someone who obtained copies of the microfilms from the
AFHRA when he was looking into this and he only found USAF serials for
those three.

However, he also found USAF acceptance dates and the dates of USAF
receipt for 22112 through 22135. In almost every case, the RCAF t/o/s
dates were the same, one day later, or two days later than the USAF
receipt dates. There were no USAF acceptance or receipt dates for the
first eleven aircraft, including the three that had had USAF serials.

I don't know why aircraft without USAF serials were accepted and
received by the USAF before they were handed over to Canada or, to look
at it another way, why aircraft that the USAF accepted and received
weren't assigned USAF serials.

None of which answers where they were built, but maybe it will lead to
finding out more info about the RCAF's C-119s.

(And wouldn't it be nice if one of the many ex-RCAF C-119s preserved in
the U.S. could come home to Trenton or Downsview?)

I think it was before then, I remember seeing it in 1992 at Geneseo ( have a couple pictures to prove it to me).

I think it came in around 1991. Everything that was usable was taken out of it by H&P once on the ground (including engines) and NWM was left with not much more than a shell.
