One thing I have always thought about photos of PV-1 & PV-2s is that it is hard to tell the true scale of how big this plane actually is. In photos I always thought that she looked like a much smaller airplane. Has anyone thought the same thing or is it just me? The first time you see one in person you realize how big the beauty really is.

Like Gary said about the access to the nose of the Harpoon. Even our D model with all the guns in the nose still retained it. The floorboards on the co-pilot side are split and flip up like saloon doors and you are somehow supposed to squeeze past the rudder peddles and get in there? I suppose it was a lot easier to acces on the earlier Ventura than the Harpoon as all the controls were on the port side. But to leave that feature in the Harpoon always seemed strange to me. I for one would sure hate to have to try it in flight.

Could just be 'one of them things' that the factory didn't have time or tooling to change over from model to model or 'HEY!! we've got 2498 of these already made!'

That would make sense, except the plane is sitting on it's gears.

Ill tell you what, if I ever get a warbird, I'm getting a PV or a Beach 18. And using it to haul my parts and tools around for my racecar

Can someone tell me if this is a PV-2?



The Lockheed in the picture (from the Bond movie?) is N33A, a 18-56-23/C-60A, serial 2263 (BuNo.42-55873) originally assigned wartime to the RCAF.
Post war it was civil CF-FQW before sale and eventual conversion to a Howard 250 in 1963. It has passed through many hands. Impounded in Nassau for drug smuggling April 1984 and apparently still there!
