The flat mainspring housing and long trigger are interchangeable with the arched housing and shorter trigger, everything else that you could replace is the same, so parts are a non-issue

I have a 1911 with a stamping that trails the serial number that looks like two capital i's, as in II.

Someone told me that meant it was rebuilt for WW2. I've always doubted that a little. Any ideas?

Per the serial number it is the 55th 1911 purchased by the USMC.

Sir, It may interest you to learn that other people besides you have multiple interests and participate in multiple boards. It appears to me that you may be the one with the troll-like obsession with Me as you make presumptions as to my identity and character. CDF appears to be from AUSTRALIA while I live in AMERICA. I believe I'll make those 2 tickets to the Museum that I offerred you available to CDF as he sounds like a chap with an open mind.
You are indeed a master of quoting others to back your opinion. If you'll re-read that skreed you posted, you (or at least most other people) will notice an obvious negative bias against WWII history, The Western Allies and most importantly against New Orleans. An excellent choice to back your objective opinion. He/She/it obviously didn't enjoy it's time here and I'm sure most people here, including the Acadiens, are glad it's gone. There are probably a dozen errors in it's diatribe which I'll gladly discuss elsewhere.
Tell me, what exactly would need to be added to the museum of your disdain to make it acceptable to discerning historians such as yourself? Constructive criticism might be a new way of life for you

(Since you know me so well I'll let you in on a secret, I like cluttered museums too, and visit a few every year, and I like free ones on Military bases a lot, but I still drop a $20 in the donation box.) and you may have noticed Unca Sam closing some of those...

Lee, I agree with you in part. As Shrike points out, the parts ARE interchangeable. My dads has the shorter trigger of the A1. So, at some point, the trigger was replaced. I would venture to say that the trigger is more likely to suffer failure than the mainspring housing

Well, I wonder how you'd react to a Vet (who might have been intoxicated, now that I think back on it) who told your wife to "F off" when she simply asked if the other boat next to the LCVP was a repro as well. I complained to the staff and they just shrugged their shoulders.
Just because someone is a vet of any war, doesn't give them the right to be an ass to the public.

Or maybe on a number of prescription drugs like most fellas their age... Yep I'd take offense too... but I wouldn't broadcast it all over. New Orleanians can be rather salty with their language (not excusable in public) and it's tiring in any of our historic venues to deal with stitch-nazis or rivet counters*. In this case "Repro"= original Higgins plans, original parts from at least 3 original vesels (from east and west coasts including diving-wreck recovery and original type plywood specilly produced and donated from Greece) and including original Higgins staff, some from his closest assistants. And thousands of man-hours of volunteer time from kids to maritime architects. Hand built in a WWII Consolidated Aircraft plant. Not your average "repro." And in answer to someone elses question, there were no original Higgins LCV#s available at that time. (There was another brand which would not have been appropriate.)

* I AM NOT including your Wife in those ranks; but I'll bet he had already tired of some of your line of questioning

I had some photos of Chuckie published in Final Cut. I never got a thing out of it, not even a copy of the book. At least I got credit for the photos.

Is there a condensation or leak issue with the glass-faced atrium in New Orleans? Do a search to see for yourselves, most results yield damp looking runs around rivet lines atop the aircraft's nose and aft fuselage. Hope the issue can be noticed to prevent it from escalating.

To me it looks like a corrosion prevention treatment leaching through from the inside and staining the OD paint.
