Maybe after the show is over, so we don't miss any major photo opportunities. I recall this past attempt on Sat. coincided with the starting of the Messerschmitt and P-47's.

Hey Michael, how bout the WIXers meet between the CF F-4 and the TA-4 ?

Also of possible interest, we will be setting up a tent and closed off area next year for people that want pictures of the flying and taxiing of aircraft with out the general public in the area.

This will be set up in the grass at the NW corner/ or next to the new taxi way running E. to W. off the show ramp in the infield. Of course thier will be an extra charge, but it will be limited to a certain number of people and will include pop/water and lunch, and the ability to come and go from it at will.

So would that remove that whole area from people sitting?

When I worked the Airshow at NAS Lemoore they did something like that. You had to pay in order to sit anywhere close to the front line. Other wise you where behind the venders. It left a Very Bad Taste is most every mouth. I was embarrassed to be in uniform that day. I was even more so after talking to the guys that flew in the warbirds and they said something to me about it. (IMHO)

Definately, it was a little screwy last year which was a shame since there were 20+ WIXers there. I figure this year we will have a morning gathering just to meet up and a gathering on Saturday afternoon to get a picture. I would also like to plan on getting together for dinner someplace Saturday night as a group. And like last year we will probably end up in a hotel lobby or bar and check out pictures and hang out. That was alot of fun.

Hi Tim,
Not to worry, this will not interfere with the general viewing area for spectators. This is an additional area that we hope to open up as we expand the site.
Also to clarify a bit further on Mike's comments, this area will also be reserved for photo tour participants only. This is an attempt to create an area that is more exclusive for the serious "shutter bug". The tented area will be called the "photo pit" and as Mike indicated each participant will have a lunch ticket provided and beverages all day.
We should have the pricing and details up soon on the web site. The current site is under construction.

That sounds like it would be fun.

I'd just hate to see the "general public" get a raw deal when they decide to show up on a Saturday or Sunday because they have nothing better to do. Or their kid drags them to their first airshow. I suspect that a good portion of the airshow is paid for by the Non-Nut Jobs out there (in other words those who don't hang out here). I'd hate to see them be turned off by a great show like yours. I hope you don’t take any offense to my statement.

Absolutley no offense taken. Mike and I welcome feedback on all aspects of the show(s).
Your also right about the "Non-Nut Jobs"....they are well over 75% of the gate. We definitely have to keep them happy!
The very reason for a change in layout this year hinges on the fact that we almost ran out of general spectator viewing area last year and we wnat to make it a spectator friendly site for everyone.
Having said that, we also want to keep developing the show for the enthusiasts. Afterall, that's what we are at heart.

I think this is an excellent idea. If you set all of us shutter bugs off in a different area, it just means all the more room for the "normal people" (perhaps a better term ) to take photos from areas that were normally swamped with the shutterbugs. Everyone wins in that situation!

Will people in the photo area be able to the access the general areas of show as well (with relative ease)? Or will they have to leave the grounds and re-enter from the outside? In other words, will there be a walkway between the photo area and the main show area?

Just remember that for the photo area, length of the area is better than depth. Everyone wants a spot up front, of course! Also, the area should take advantage of where the sun will be best suited. If the photographers are shooting into the sun all day, you'll hear some noise for sure.

Anyway, great idea...Thunder just keeps getting better and better!
