Number of 4th FG warbirds? P-47s and P-51s

Tue Jan 15, 2013 8:31 pm

Title says it all. Is there a list out there of the number of P-47 and P-51 warbirds that fly in the colors of the 4th FG?

Oh- can't forget the Eagle Squadron Spits....both RAF and USAAF.

I think the number would depend on if you want correct markings vs pseudo 4th Markings.

No Jugs that I can think of right now. No Spits although the B of B Spit V wore Eagle Markings for a bit a while back.

P51B/C Boise Bee
P51D Red Dog XII
P51D Ridge Runner
A couple of stateside Don Gentile marked P51D Shangri La
The RAF Museum has one painted as Don Emerson's "Donald Duck" that was a flyer until then.

Seems like there was a WD-C Don Blakeslee marked 51D that is no longer in those markings.

Fagen Fighters has one painted in pseudo 4th Markings, as does the CAF. "Iron Ass" QP-X was out there for a while but I think those markings got changed too.

I'm sure there are others that look like 4th birds, but I can't think of any more accurately marked.

A little while ago I found this site, which lists the Mustangs restored in 4th FG colors and also contains comments on their accuracy. It is now a few years out of date.
