The Cutlass has been moved to the outdoors restoration area just past the Old Pitcairn Plant . It can be seen with a Blue tarp over the canopy and its twin tails sticking up .

Why was the 262 moved to P-cola? I know the Navy owns it, but its actual connection to Naval aviation history is tenuous at best. It seems like the Sea Dart would have been a much better "fit."

A poster over on a model forum visited the NMNA last week, and said a docent told him that the 262 was owned by another museum and merely temporarily "on loan" to P-cola..are there plans to eventually relocate or trade it for something a bit more nautical?

Took me a bit to find these photos again, had to use the wayback machine.
Thought they were worth a look.

Thanks for adding the pictures of the Cutlass and "Vera" the 262. I never got a chance to stop and see the 262 before it left, but I did see it through the front windows.

The Cutlass has been sitting in the out door resto area for the past several years.

I've read that this museum recently got permission to incorporate the P-3 on the other side of the base into its collection. An early Pitcairn was also donated recently and went on display inside the hanger.

The P-3 used to be on the 611 side of the base just behind the museum. It was moved to the Horsham Rd side some years ago.

The plan is to have the museum 'expand' somewhat, from where they are now back untill the parking lot area of the PX that is visible beyond the fence. They also were supposed to have the P-3 moved over now, but there is a big issue with one of the landing gear being broken somehow, and I guess it's causing problems for them to move it.

I've heard some different stories on why the 262 moved, and basically from what I gathered from all sources, the Navy was giving them a hard time about it and finally just said, sorry it's ours....give it to us.

As mentioned the Cutlass is down the road a little bit, north on 611. I'm not sure how the restoration is going, but I think that was the plan. The F-14 was taken almost a year ago now I think, it's outside as a gate guard somewhere from what I heard.

The museum did just receive a PA-8 Mailwing, which now is basically in the spot where the 262 was indoors.
