Condition of WWII planes for civilian sale

Wed Dec 14, 2005 7:47 am

When fighters such as the P-51 were offered for sale to the public they only had their wing mounted 50 cal. machine guns removed. But I'm curious when bombers such as the B-17s were offered for sale, did they remove the whole turret assembly and cap over the opening, or did they just remove the 50 cal. guns leaving the turrets in place?

The Lacy machine as well others retained their turrets. It has been stated elsewhere that they were usually the first things removed when the buyers started converting to their particular usage.

Just the guns were removed; the turrets and all the operating equipment remained in place.
