I saw this in the "New Products" section of a UK classic car magazine.

It seems Thunderbird Field had its own leather jacket for instructors.
Who knew? Has anyone seen this before? Is it really legit?
What was the A-1 jacket mentioned?

I can't say I like it any better than the classic A-2...and for almost $900, I don't think I'll be ordering one soon.

The A-1 was issued by the Army in the 20s and was replaced by the A-2. It was a leather jacket but I think there was a wool version as well. I've never seen a period photo of one with a wool body and leather sleeves though. I've seen a lot of Thunderbird Field photos and when the instructors are wearing leather jackets they are usually A-2s. If they had photographic proof of that jacket, I'd love to see it. The patch looks a lot like the originals I've handled so they got that more or less right.

Legit or not...that's one UUUgly piece of clothing. I might buy one if the price was $90.

The word Tacky (In bad taste. This usage, as opposed to the physical description, originated in the rural South but has since been adopted for use nationwide and in urban settings; gaudy, flamboyant, and flashy in apparel; Someone that is overdressed/overdone and is just a show off; #1: If your tacky you'll definitely be on the Jersey Shore; #2: Kim Kardashian is Tacky; something tacky is something you turn your nose up at, unless you’re a pimp or a tramp, it is usually cheap, breakable, and not worth a lot. Townies look tacky most of the time, wearing plastic sovereign lookalikes 20p from that machine in the chippy. Pimp-like appearance) comes into mind.

"omg, did you see that jacket he bought? soooo tacky!"
