Yes
A a matter of fact it is NOT.
The JRS-1 (17 USN, 5 USAAC) is based on the S-43 but being a military aircraft would naturally have different equiptment (radios, camera mounts and doors, etc) but the differences go further. The outboard section of the wings sport significant upward dihdral, there are cargo/egress doors installed on both sides of the fuselage, different landing gear shock assembly installation, and additional external bracing of the forward fuselage.
The JRS-1 have the same engines of the standard S-43, Pratt & Whitney Hornet R-1690-52 radials, @750 hp. The Hughes/ Weeks S-43 has 1,100 Wright Cyclones, an option on the Twin Tailed S-43B.
The JRS-1 is also armed.
