WHAT IS THIS AIRPLANE....

O.k. fellas, what is this airplane. I found it in a yard along side a road here in TX. It has been many years since I found a derelict plane in the rough, I was thinking Fairchild, or Ryan but it seems too big.

Looks like a PT-19 to me.

Fairchild PT-19/23 with the main gear re-attached to the center area.

I thought a PT-19 had an all wood center section. The gear really threw me, I didn't look close enough to see if it was temporarily attached. The wife and kids were waiting in the minivan and more worrisome were the rather large dog prints in the mud.

Interesting to see who has the best guess. Fairchild would have wood center section, unless some kind of after war mod?

Definitely a PT19 except it appears that the entire wood centre section has rotted away which leads me to believe she has sat outside for many many years.
All of the metal brackets and fittings for the wood centre section remain but just no wood left.
No mods this is an original airframe, I know as I have one in similar shape behind my barn.

That cowling is definitely for a ranger so most likely a pt-19

O.K. most likely a PT-19, the gear really threw me as a PT-19 has a much wider stance. But it seems like they just bolted the gear to what was left of the center section. Does everyone agree that is what it is?
