Iwo Jima, 68 years ago today

Tue Feb 19, 2013 3:59 pm

Today is the 68th anniversary of the US invasion of Iwo Jima. Let us never forget the Marines who fought and the 6,000+ that died there. As Admiral Nimitz said of the Marines that fought there, "Uncommon Valor was a Commom Virtue".

As a point of interest visitation to Iwo jima is indeed possible. I've attached a link that describes an annual visit permitted during the month of March. The aircraft leaves Guam at 8:00 am and returns in the afternoon. Pacific Wrecks can probably provide the details as far as cost and getting a boarding priority as an "enthusiast". It would be a most awesome trip.
