I read with interest about the recent arrival of PBY-5 N427CV at Gillespie Field, CA, and that this is the 46th aircraft in owner Jim Slattery's collection. This got me thinking about what the other 45 were. Surprising, there seems little information out there about either the man or his collection, which will go on display "shortly" at the Greatest Generation Naval Museum which will be at Gillespie Field. With a bit of digging I've managed to identify the 21 below as being owned by Slattery. Not all are warbirds, but I've included them in this list for the sake of completeness as it seems likely they are among the 46 in his collection. I'm hoping WIXers will be able to identify some of the missing 25.

A GIV?....I wonder if someone told him it was a an offshoot of a Grumman design and that's why it's included? :)

I was very interested to see what became of Danny Summers' A-1 after his passing. I agree, a little bit of internet searching hasn't turned up much on Mr Slattery and WIXers were generally silent back when I asked the same question. I figured there'd be more details available ...

I have removed the nastiness and will return this post to the main hanger. Lets try to act like adults.

Jeff:

I ended up on this topic as a result of Google-ing "Greatest Generation Naval Museum" because the December issue of Sport Aviation had an article on the F7F and there was a sidebar on Jim Slattery (pp.68-69). In the sidebar it talks about the museum and says Jim's collection includes an N3N :D

I was looking for info on that aircraft - I want to add it to my Museum Page. But I can't find any contact info on the museum.

I've been waiting for the beautiful Fighter Factory N (N120BH) to show up someplace.

Two of those birds are undergoing restoration at Vulture's Row.
WIX'er Chuck Wahl and his crew are doing amazing work on the Dauntless and the Helldiver.
Check out their progress here! http://vulturesrowaviation.com/
