Battle Taxi? If that's the same one that I'm thinking of, it's great! I think it includes a Grumman SA-16A Albatross or two as well - and my favorite scene is one in which Squadron CO Sterling Hayden test flies a Sikorsky S-55 / H-19 after maintenance by doing what comes close to low-level aerobatics with it. It's been a while since I've seen it, but there's something tickling the back of my mind that maybe some portions of that scene were created by running the original film backwards, too.

And IIRC: Shaw's "Tigers" were actually Patton tanks (probably the M48 variant) and the Allied / US Army "Shermans" were the M24 Chaffees. My favorite line was by Telly Savalas and went something like "the guy over there with the antennas coming out of his antennas* - he's MINE!" (*meaning Shaw's command tank.)

In any given month, I don't necessarily think TCM puts out a great selection of aviation type movies, but every now and then they do. Wish they would show "Strategic Air Command." Not sure if it's in their catalog of movies anymore - haven't seen it on there for a long time.

And the "Tiger" tanks in the "Battle of the Bulge" movie were M-47's.

I wish they'd do a Film Noir weekend, I love those old darkly lit thrillers almost as much as REPUBLIC'S 58 minute 'B' Westerns (mostly done @ Ray Corrigans movie ranch).

Imagine a typical gung-ho aviation war film but with helicopters in Korea.

Showing my age here, I used to watch Whirly Birds every afternoon, Sky King every Sunday, and, while it was on, Captain Midnight.

I used to have a link to a site that had all 63 Sky King episodes and they were fun to watch from the perspective of time, pretty thin plots lines but Penny was still pretty cute.

WhirlyBirds cemented in peoples minds that the BELL 47 was THE light helicopter

Also keep an eye out for Sunday Dinner for a Soldier and Top of the World - both have some B-17 footage (the first having been shot down at one of the training bases in Florida, second with SAR birds in Alaska) that I want to copy for Aerovin's site. Both were on TCM a while back; due for a rerun?

There are a couple of existing links on line that list all the Hollywood folks who either were pilots or served as aircrew members in WW2, comedian Mort Saul was a tailgunner on B-29's while cowboy actor Tim Holt worked the other end of a B-29 as a bombardier. I worked with a grumpy old silverback years ago who had Walllace Beerys SR8 STINSON up @ the airport in Concrete, WA.

IIRC, he ordered a top of the line Staggerwing, which at that time, was the most expensive plane they made.
