Great shots! I loved the 70s shots of the Lex as I saw her there when I was a kid about that time (would have been the mid to late 70s).
It's amazing how close the buildings were built to the beach like that, I bet the stroms played merry heck with them...

Thanks Mark, those are great. I lived in Pensacola back in the early 80's, for awhile, & spent a lot of time over on base. A lot of the old buildings were still there, including the seaplane ramps. those were the days that the last of the "Macho Machines" (T-28) were still flying along with the S-2's. I lived near Cory Station, & there were a lot of good sounding round engines in the air most days. The Blues were still flying scooters, & Trader Jon's was the place to hang out. Oh yes, those were the good ole days.

However, I don't belived the photo of the Neuiport 28
and F4U (which is a FG-1D N3440G 92433) was taken
at Pensacola. No background like that anywhere around
Pensacola.

All welcome as always, and yes I was looking at that photo a bit and was thinking the same thing. Oh well that's what you guys are for, to set the record straight. Thanks for the info.

Sad to know how little of the buildings and a/c from those shots are still around today.
Check out this great link to what's left in the area: http://www.airfields-freeman.com/FL/Airfields_FL_Pensacola_SW.htm The Chevalier Field stuff was very interesting, they have a few Tomcats and Hornets (which look like former Blue Angels aircraft) lined up on a fake ‘carrier deck’ for training at some point, all locked in place without a runway even if they could be flown again.

Interesting that the fuel tank at the pier is gone now with absolutely no evidence it ever existed. I wonder if that was for aviation fuel or bunker oil? You can barely see it in the pre-WWII pics and is prominent in the Lexington series.
