Words fail me! Has anyone seen this close up or know its history?

it certainly isn't a 757! That thing is cool! Would love to drive around in that thing ^^

23454 was a very early (l/n 104) 757-2M6 for UAL as N 6067U, (which this AIN'T!) then V8-RBC, UN 002, VR-CRK, P4-NSW so whatever the placard was mounted on must have been 'liberated' for this project, maybe from a scrapper or a pile of removed items and 'migrated' over.
It would be interesting to know it's real background, T-29? C-131?

A big thank you to WallyB for helping me out on the 757 side of things!- I thought it was odd that a UAL aircraft would be identified as a -2M6 instead of -222, N 6067U was it's temporary U.S. registration. 23454 is the Head of State Presidental aircraft for Kazahkstan (we modded an ex AMERICAN 747SP for them @ BADWRENCH years ago) and the 757 is registered as UP-B5701

It's definitely a CV-340/440. Dunno if it was a military one or not. Wish I had the time to go take a look at it and see how much it'd take to get it back on the road again even if just to get it somewhere that I could take the cockpit off and scrap the rest. Would be the perfect start to a home cockpit project. :)

The placard referring to the 757 is a lease plate, almost certainly removed after the aircraft finished its service with Royal Brunei. It was probably mounted either in or near the flight deck, possibly next to where the aircraft's document holder (for C of A, etc.) was mounted.

Those lease plates have a habit of winding up in toolboxes when they're no longer needed.

If 23454 is now the Kazahkstan Head of State bird, that means I've seen it in person when it was visiting CYYZ years ago. Small world, this aviation business...

If you like I can go see if I can saturate the thing with photos. Sounds like it's real close to me. PM me anytime.

I can see it now: olive drab, stars and bars, invasion stripes, a big yellow letter and number right behind the cockpit, nose art... The ultimate airshowmobile!

Sort of O/T but in the same vein, the Spirit of LeMons is making its debut as we speak - a race car built out of a 1957 Cessna 310 and a Toyota minivan:

If it's straight and not too rusty, that '64 FAIRLANE coupe would be a nice start on a tribute THUNDERBOLT drag car clone.
