...or his wife, in my experience. This has nothing to do with aircraft, but
everything to do with Admirals. Tied up to the tender at Pt. Loma we were
working within the superstructure of das-boat on one unusually HOT
San Diego morning and it was killing us. I'd had enough and told the lads
we were going below to change into our Navy-issue swim trunks and T's.
We did that and things were then manageable "in the black oven". We
were moving along nicely, until one of our Ensigns shows up inquiring why
we're working in our underwear. I explain the issues and facts of the light-
tan gear we're wearing..and away the E goes to make a call to
"the hill"...SubGru5 resided and officed up the hill overlooking the base.
'bout 15 later the XO comes up making the same inquiry. Again, I report
same. XO retorts, "Well I've just recieved a particularly irate phone call
from the Admirals Wife and SHE THINKS THEY'RE UNDERWEAR...YOU !@#
*%& GET Y'ER ^^/^^/^^'s BELOW AND CHANGE TO DUNGAREES!!!"
Began to ask why SHE couldn't "get it", but his complexion altered..
Whew...touchy..touchy..

One of my earliest adverse experiences with
military intelligence...'tis better to burn in h*ll...than to offend the boss's
wife!

Hazard Pay could never be enough on some days....
