B-17 Boeing Bee gets a hangar again

FHC alread has a B-17 that they have hidden away in storage.

Perhaps we shall see that aircraft come out of storage now with the new hangar built?

The former Champlin collection (owned by VULCAN/P.A.) is on loan to the MoF.

Is that really true? I thought MOF bought that collection outright.

That I was aware of the Museum owned all of the Champlin collection except for the D-13 which is at FHC.

Years ago, when it was kept in a now gone hanger on the East side of KBFI near the UPS facility (before it lived @ Auburn WA's airport), the guy who owned it then used to prop up a piece of cardboard that had 'YES' 'NO' 'Like a brick" and 'MAYBE' written in black marker whenever he rolled it outside and you were welcome to choose whatever answer you liked to whatever your question might be.

It is an odd thing is it not , you'd think that with the history of Boeing, they'd have one. ...then there is always the possibility that a bean counter said that Boeing is well represented in just about every museum in Merica , that they don't need to spend the coin in restorations , building construction/maintenance , insurance and other overhead so why eat the profit margin and screw the stockholders.

My point exactly. This gets brought more to the forefront when you hear that the MoF wants to go in a different direction (space).

Company museums are pretty much a luxury that has gone by the wayside. There used to be more; Douglas in Santa Monica, Northrop in Hawthorne, etc. The lucky ones became private museums about local aviation history that maybe get some sideways assistance from the company if it still exists. The unlucky ones just died. Partly the drop-off has been like Inspector says, because they never contributed much to corporate or shareholder value. Partly there is an identity issue. Boeing is not just Boeing, it also lays claim to the heritage of North American, Rockwell, McDonnell, Douglas, and is a participant in major programs led by the other companies (B-2, F-22). Maintaining a museum just of planes that had "Boeing" in their name at the time they were made doesn't capture the whole company. After another couple of mergers it will claim parentage of just about every airplane ever built in America and then the NASM, NMUSAF and NMNA will be its company museums.
