Thanks Mark. As a transplant to NY, always nice to see the pics with the New York titles.

Amazing that such an asset as Sikorsky would, or would be allowed to, risk his butt in an experimental sling like that.

The AD might have beaten the AM on utility but surely not on looks.

Neat pics.

You can see the Belt Parkway in some of the pictures (look for the cloverleaf)...it looks like a country highway compared to today!

The SNJ-2 is over the Rockaways, in the foreground is Riis Park, in the background you can see the Cross Bay Bridge and the unnamed railroad bridge in the background,

i had my 7th birthday party at FBF , way back in 1967,the field boasted a squadron of Navy P2V Neptunes back then as well as some itinerant A4s, the hit of the day was an Air Guard F-102 that arrived with a billowing drag chute mid festivities. Flying into JFK on the Canarsie approach we pass overhead that grand old airbase on a regular basis.

Why of course, my pleasure, stay tuned. What years were you stationed?

Mark

I got to put Floyd Bennett Field in my logbook in May, 2011, with the Curtiss Pusher, when we flew over NY harbor for Navy Fleet Week. Here's a photo of Bob Coolbaugh in the Pusher over FBF.

Image

We kept it there for a week, in the hangar on the south side with the C-97 and various other a/c.

Great shots. I've always like the looks of the Hall flying boat.

Also, great shot of Igor in ther escue hoist, even though he was the boss he didn't mind getting out there with his products. I find the R-4/NHS interesting. Awfully crude buf effective. Not much of a useful load and I'm sure it took a lot of maintenance. Probably makes a Bell 47 look modern in comparison. I do wish someone would restore and fly one.
