This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Both correct!!!!
Stopped by today and checked on the progress of N13Y.
Lots of missing parts over the years, but it's basically all there.
Here's some more pics:

Thanks for posting.
That'll be the day, when someone posts a photo of a P-51 on WIX, and no one figures it out
What is the fate of this restoration?

Thanks for posting - the background to this Mustang is a great story (if one of unfilled potential).

Andy, I knew SOMEBODY had to get it quickly! I just wanted to see how fast it took!

Thankfully it will retain its racing modifications (I hope!). Too bad it won't fly.

The only time I'd ever seen this one was when it was in dismantled storage at the old Bradley Air Museum storage site on what was then the other side of the airport - close to the current museum site. That was at a CAHA membership open house back in the mid 1970s.
I am really glad to see that she's seeing the light of day and being restored in her racing configuration. I can't wait to see her sitting next to the museum's other racers.
I think the fire school may have been built on the site of the old storage facility.

Close Dave. The storage facility was about 300 yards East of the Fire School. It had aircraft on both sides of the road and 4-5 building stuffed with airframes and artifacts. Now there are just the concrete pads the buildings sat on. All torn down in the early 2000's.

Jerry - On the day of the open house there was a non-museum Gooney sitting on its belly in an open area not too far from the storage site, presumably for fire or rescue training, or both? (Or maybe for beekeeper training, since it was swarming with them.) I am curious as to its fate. Do you know? - Dave

Dave, that DC-3 was damaged in an accident and was used for fire training before being scrapped.
The wings were saved and NEAM had them in the storage yard for years. I'm not sure if they are still there.

Hope they paint it in her old racing colours....

It won't be the blue scheme that she won the Thompson. It'll be the final yellow with red trim scheme as in the photo above. The final scheme she wore.

I decided to add these photos from Tuesday's visit instead of starting a new thread. It was Open Cockpit Day (school Break) so there were lots of people and lots of activity. Several restoration projects underway, DC-3 restoration, Mig-15, Burnelli CBY-3, and previously, P-51 N13Y
F-86 sabre in new position. It was previously at Champlin in AZ. On loan from the USAF.

Merlin in the lobby for P-51 project.

FM-2 undergoing some work on the display floor.

The DC-3 is undergoing restoration and repaint. They are disassembling her in side so it's easier to move.

Horizontal removed.

Work continues.

B-25H and Stinson Reliant in storage.

F-100A open for tours. BTW, this was the 8th F-100 built and was modified to have the taller tail.

Get in line! Visitors wait for their chance to be "The Man" in "The Missile"!

The record setting helicopter, Sikorsky's S-59, just finished it's time in the restoration building in late 2012.

Nice paint scheme.

Better than new!

The "Winged-S" logo.

Record details.
