Re: Geneseo airshow becoming huge!

Honestly, I've been going to warbird airshows for 25 years and by this time I never expect anything I want to see to show up. It is the nature of the beast. If it does I am pleasantly surprised. Planning on attending an airshow to see ONE specific airplane is silly. If you do its a gamble. Sometimes you win sometimes not.

Even if HAG and MAM work this out ANYTHING can happen and there is still no guarantee.

Last year Gennie had three no shows.
The CWH LANC had a mechanical.
The pilot of Duffy's P-47 was reportedly injured and couldn't fly.
The MAM Fw190 was a no show reportedly for improper paperwork. But Jerry Yagen honored the commitment by sending the Yak-3.

Case in point, two years ago the Barnes show in Westfield MA had advertised an F-100 Hun to be at the show. Wow! (Not the CF one) I really wanted to see it but EVERYTHING else at the show I saw (TBirds, all the warbirds from the AAM, flip flop acts) recently. Being skeptical about the Hun actually showing up, and the thought of spending 5 hours in the car, tolls, traffic, crowds all to see a "re-run" if it didn't make it, I decided not to go. I lost the bet. It flew and their are pics on WIX if you search for it. It's a gamble. No wanna lose then don't place a bet.

Geneseo is different and it is clear that this year HAG/NWM is pulling out all the stops and is really trying to bring this show back. I applaud them for it and I will be there in the sponsor tent with my beer even if a gaggle of T-6's only show up! 8)

Mudge, we have a contract with them, and we are waiting for the legal stuff to be sorted out. Honestly, we don't know yet, and neither do they. So, until then, take a look at everything ELSE that we have, here! 8)

All well and good but there comes a point where someone HAS to make a decision and/or an announcement and that's not 5 minutes before the aircraft is supposed to arrive. Yes...I'm being a pain in the butt. I worked for UAL for 34 years and was no less frustrated by "creeping delays" than the customers were.

ps. And you can tout the "Everything else" all you want. That's not the point.

I'm not trying to "spin" this in any way, I'm simply stating a fact. This is a serious legal situation, and we simply cannot speak to the matter on the Mossie. Like I said, we know what YOU know. So, if you don't have faith in it, then feel free to make your judgement call. We made the decision to announce the legal situation, and we could very well not know until the show has passed. If that be the case, we are not at fault for honoring our part of the contract.

Either way if the mossie shows or not it will still be a geneseo airshow, good enough for me. Really wish I could make it up this year, first time since 04 that I'll miss.

If y'all ain't got Scottie Royce's Luscombe "Junior" or Moose Jaw Belle I'm not sure it is a show! :axe:

SERIOUSLY- Glad to hear you have GREAT show planned. And I like Bomberflight's take on crossing the pond to see shows that may or may not happen due to rain, mechanical issues, or WHATEVER...
They called is sweating out the mission in WWII.

Somehow I doubt it is a "serious legal issue". Most airshow appearance contracts that I saw and signed had so many contingencies in them that they weren't really contracts...more an agreement that "hey if you show up, I will give you XXXX." I doubt anyone who operates a warbird would sign anything but that given the nature of the operation of these aircraft. Also, I am betting that HAG or NWM would not pursue anything against an aircraft owner for non-appearance since that would probably chill anyone else from entering into a 'contract' with them. We made it to all the shows we booked when I was operating the B-25 except one. That show was run by a woman who led a non-profit organization that put on the show. She seemed to think we were running an airline and was pretty upset when we couldn't come...but we had an engine off the airplane due to failure...not much you can do about that. But again, there really wasn't a contract in the sense of an enforceable agreement.

Unless things have radically changed in the way warbird contracts are written...but I seriously doubt that.

I wonder how Scott is. He was always at Air Heritage back in the 90's and he always stopped in on his way to the show every year, but for the last year or two, he hasn't stopped as I don't think he was able to fly. Never have personally met him, but boy it sure would be interesting to.

Growing up with the likes of Mc Arthur and Doolittle as your father's friend, I'm sure he has a lot to say.

Thank you Tim. The Geneseo web site "participating aircraft" list states:
"The following aircraft are tentatively scheduled to appear; negotiations are still underway and the list is subject to change." Which tells me the "contract" has the "contingences" you described in it.

We've decided to attend Mosquito or not. (I'm sure all of you are relieved to hear that. )

Okay folks. What other air show can you get in at 6am, stay till whenever, have no ropes, stanchions or other ramp trash around the aircraft, flying starts at 10am and goes until it is finished, the aircraft taxi right in front of you and the runway is reachable with 200mm on your camera, the runway is a grass strip, the airport is not surrounded with crappy industrial parks or other unsightly features, take part in a great BBQ chicken(Friday) and steak(Saturday) dinner where you can sit and chat casually with those lucky and hard working aircrew and pilots and I could go on and on.

Come if you want, we would love to see you. If you have never been this would be a great year to start making a trip to the valley an annual event. There is a lot of exciting stuff happening at the museum and this year's show will be a great step towards making your aircraft watching experience one of the best ever.

Cheers,

Jeff

Can't wait to fly down there myself!

I think the "serious legal issue" if with the ENTIRE mam collection and not the appearance contract.

Andrew will be taking Bald Eagle up there. Possibly Dan will fly his T-6G but that is tentative.

Thanks for the heads up Rich. That will make 3 Mustangs! Also just added was AAM's Corsair, TORA Zero and Val.

The weather also looks great. This is going to be a great show!

That's great news about B.E.
I haven't seen it at Geneseo since Jim Senior used to bring it.

Weather forecast could not be better. Not too hot or humid. Just remember the sunscreen everyone :D

We'll see you there. :drink3:

Yeah... and I won't be wearing my wool winter fedora like I did a few years ago. 8 hours in the blazing sun + little hydration + constant walking around in the hot field = :vom: Won't do that again. Looking forward to the weekend!

PS. Would be nice to see the Collings Foundation become regular attendees again.

You're kidding, right? Upper 80's with a "real feel" of lower to mid 90s.
