Tamiya P-51D Mustang 1/48

This is my efforts on the Tamiya P-51D in 1/48 OOB. As you may know there is a bit of controversy around the colors of this units P-51`s. Personally, I could never see how anyone could ever get blue out of the exsiting photos I have seen. But thats just me. This is the kit before the flat coat was applied over the OD. The invasion strips were painted on. I used a watercolor black wash for the panel lines.



Second Photo shows the Tamiya kit beside the old Otaki P-51D Kit. I built the Otaki kit in 1987,and shows signs of fading and the finish has dulled.

Yes Mr. Johansen, That is the Eduard Yak-3 in progress, it`s painted now, and at the point of attaching the landing gear. The silver wing in the top right corner, is the Ki-43 Oscar that I have posted also in this forum.
Thanks for the compliments guys !..Makes me wanna go tackle the HML He-177 Grief in 48......but I gotta do my homework before I dive into that one !

Will Do Mr. Johansen ! Here is where my Eduard Yak-3 is at the present time. I still have the canopy to do, as well as the inner landing gear doors. The Prop spinner was painted using a small electric motor. The prop was spun on the motor, as paint was applied. Works really well. Then it will be time for the gloss coat, decals,wash, & final flatcoat.

Yes Abbott still a controversey, and probably always will be unless some
"blue skin" artifact is retrieved. Did you read the latest addenda to a
very interesting set of documented discussions from IPMS Stockholm from
about 10 days ago...concerning some original L-5 parts in Medium Green
which had been in long-term storage in Calif. ?

Thanks for the info...I just read it, that is quite interesting. Yes I can see where that would be possible concerning the L-5`s. ...Oddly enough, I agree with what the author is saying. I too worked in corrosion control / painting for a brief spell in the Navy, and I know how colors can get mixed up, and improvised in the field. To this day, not too many people would agree that there were any Air Force Blue A-7E`s in the Navy...but I know better !

Yes, I like the Yak family from 1 up to about 17. Albeit a little unsure about the two-seat 7! Have a couple of 1/72 Yak-11s I look forward to start working on!
