Turns out we'll be driving to Geneseo this year.
Really hoped she'd be ready. Well, you know how it goes with restorations. They're ready, when they're ready







After we get back from Geneseo, we are going to move her to the final assembly point. Things are getting quite exciting!

Don't think it hasn't crossed my mind
When I first heard that KA114 was scheduled for Geneseo I hoped that these two deHavillands could get together for a family photo. As fate has it, neither will attend this year. We definitely plan on travelling with her. That's part of the adventure. We just have to hop our way from grass strip to grass strip (no tailwheel, no brakes)
Myself and two partners brought her home from Pennsylvania two years ago (her U.S. reg was N42DH).
It's been fun so far. We are still friends . Definitely getting itchy to fly though... ... Soon,

We've got a 9900FT runway, no need for brakes, would just need to get your hands on tail wheel.

Pavement is a little hard on the skid. Think sandpaper, no, think grinder
You also have precious little directional control. As she slows down, she just weathervanes into the wind. That's when you have to jump out and literally, grab the Tiger by the tail . No kidding!
The skid works well on the grass. It will slowly go the direction you are pushing the rudder. For sharper turns you give a little blast of power along with your boot full of rudder. Sounds scary, well it is, 'til you get the hang of it

Something that flying Tiger has taught me "the paved runway invented the crosswind!"

Ah, restorations. 90% done, 90% left to go!

She looks great! looking forward to seeing her complete. I was chatting to an aircraft engineer friend of mine who apart from being an ex topdresser (thats cropduster for you North Americans......not sure what you call them in Canada?)also owned a Tiger Moth and at one point an Auster (a J5B) at one point. he mentioned an interesting thing about the Gipsy Major. He found the No2 cylinder was more prone to cracking (not sure if it was an alloy or Bronze head). So he trialled a sodium exhaust valve in only this cylinder. No more cracks!

We addressed a few things that were less than ideal with our Gipsy. This aeroplane has needed a lot of lovin'

Tail feathers went on yesterday. We're committed now. It won't fit back in the garage!



Also trial fitted the prop.
Such a great feeling to pull all of these bits off the shelf, wall, floor etc.... ......kinda starting to look like an aeroplane again

Today we'll install the cabane struts and fuel tank. Hope that goes as smooth as the tail feathers did.
