Dates for Thunder 2006

Michael and Kevin,

Any chance you might let the shutterbugs on site a little longer in the afternoon? I took part in both of the morning photo sessions this year (a great feature by the way) but didn't take static photo's of the B-25's since they were in the shade. I was hoping for an afternoon shot with them facing into the sun, but was chased off before I could get a decent shot after the flying ended. I know it was at the end of a long day, but some afternoon shots after the bulk of the public leaves would be nice. In any case I hope to be back this year!

Hi Jeff,
Afternoon ramp closure is unfortunately dictated mostly by the airport authority. The airport only will extend their operations, police and fire services until a certain time in the afternoon. Once they "go home" we really can't operate a public ramp safely. Also, our volunteers (especially Security) have such a long day too. They start a revolt if we ask them to stick around another couple of hours :shock:

Having said that, we will do our best to give a maximum amount of time to everyone on the ramp.

You can't blame a guy for trying! :lol:

Just because your show is pretty awesome, you still have my support and attendance if at all possible!

I think the paid entry area is a great idea. We really enjoy using the "Friends of The Fighter Collection" enclosure at Duxford. If there's going to be "advance ticket" capability for it, you'll post that here first, won't you :?:

Yes we will have advance tickets and at the entrence also (at a higher price) and we will post it here first. Also the area will be on the main show grounds, the only differance will be that it will be on the main show line and roped off your ticket will let you come and go at will from the area.

The main reson for this is you can leave the are on the main rope line and come back, and not worry that someone else has taken your prime spot. Also you wont have the public invading your spot

It should work well. and we might add some guided walks to ramp areas that others will not be allowed.

Just read this on the 1941 HAG board. Sparked an interest. To sum up the part that caught my eye is that the CWH Lancaster cannot stay out of Canada over night. Is that right? If so that is one of the strangest things I’ve heard.

With the hope the Lancaster will be at this years Thunder over Michigan, I decide to ask if Michael or Kevin could comment on this piece of information. Did the Lancaster not stay over for the 2003 show?

Was the Lanc not at a air show in Florida in 2005? Thought i remember seeing pictures of it with Spitfire MJ730.

The Lanc was at Wings Over Houston about ten or more years ago. That was definitely an overnighter ! :lol:

B.S. I think it stayed overnight at Yankee last time it visited three or so years ago. And it must have stayed overnight at Dayton for this year's show. (Not to mention the talk of it going to England last year. I am pretty sure they couldn't make that trip without an overnight stay.) There is always a difference between doesn't and can't. I'm pretty sure the CWH doesn't like it gone overnight, but there is no reason it can't stay overnight. All it takes is money.

At one time the CWH did not allow the Lanc to stay more then one day OR arrive after noon on the first day, overnight, and had to leave by noon on the second day. (this is what we did in 2003) Today they will come in on friday and leave on sunday, but you haft to pay extra for two days.

As for the B-29, we are going to wait for Doc to be up and flying, so we can have both at the show together.

Hi Mike,

Seeing all of that British Built Iron on the ramp alreay sets my mind to wandering...pleasently so. And with the potential, as you indicated, of seeing TWO flyable B-29's at the same show at some point....well...let's just say that I LIKE the way you think !!
