Can someone please remind me which is the earlier camo scheme on those spits

Brown/Green is the early camo, circa Battle of Britain and before. Gray/Green came later (the following year I think) and was used for the rest of the war.

Thank you for the clarification, Steve. I can now move right on to the consumption of mass quantities of beer as I stare in appreciation at these beautiful shots by Peter. As mentioned previously, that "Snafu" and "Sally B" shot is the most awesome photo I've seen in quite a while!

Yes, 'Princess Elizabeth' was brought over for the show at the end of May and for Legends, and is already in a box on its way back to Texas.

Several US pilots too, Messrs Hinton, Shipley and Friedkin flying the 'Horsemen' routine in Spitfires, Steve Hinton Jr flying 'Princess Elizabeth', and Stew Dawson flying one of the Spitfire Is.

The last time they tried that, with 'Glacier Girl', it didn't end well, although the TF-51 'Miss Velma' did complete the trip that year.

And I spent part of Sunday morning at Duxford listening to an interesting interview over the PA with the mission commander of the South African Shackleton, which ended up having to make a forced landing in the Sahara in the middle of the night whilst en-route to Duxford several years ago.
