Saw a PBY featured in a Mr. Clean commercial on TV. Anyone know if it is real or CGI?

Not sure about the aircraft, but I know CGI in the entertainment industry pretty well, and it's more than likely real, but from a stock video shoot. The guy with the backpack and obviously Mr Clean are cgi'd in but the video of the plane is more than likely real.

Looks real. If you notice the water drop doors are open, Nobody would do that in CGI unless they were an idiot. ;)
The props might be digitally rotated.

The plane looks real enough, but I agree the spinning props are CGI, as well as most (if not all) of the people..the guy in the "captain's" uniform is pretty obviously CGI when seen in freeze-frame.

Why on earth did they decide to have a cgi man with real people in the ad?

Because Mr Clean is an icon now. They don't want his face to be associated with a single man (the actor who would play him). They want him to appear as a single person for the foreseeable future and relying on one actor to play him would be risky. The actor could do something stupid like Elmo's puppeteer or the guy who did the voice of the Geiko Gecko.

What'd he do? I know the AFLAC Duck guy got canned after making some stupid tweets about the Japanese Tsunami (Japan is apparently one of AFLAC's biggest foreign markets, and they weren't amused)

Ah..hadn't heard about that one. Apparently it wasn't the voice of the gecko, but the narrator who added the "tag" at the end of the commercials.

We're drifting OT of course, but I'm continually baffled by the number public figures who shoot themselves in the foot by putting it in their mouths. I work at a TV station, and a few years ago we had a news anchor get himslf fired by talking smack about his co-anchor on Facebook (he made a half-hearted attempt to disavow it by claiming his account had been hacked..which absolutely no one believed.)
