What is the configuration and where are they located?

Most WWII large aircraft and many smaller ones had a retractable landing light mounted on the lower surface of each wing. The pilot could control the extension, retraction of the light and sometimes there was a separate switch for the filament.

The B-29 had them as described above. One in each wing. They were a standard light manufactured by Grimes and I believe they had an AN part number. The down stop was adjustable and it was set to the specific aircraft otherwise they were interchangeable. Of course there were 12 or 24 volt models too.
