C47 Drag-em-oot visits North Weald

Thu Sep 05, 2013 6:51 am

C47 Drag-em-oot flew in to North Weald from East Kirkby on Tuesday for fuel. It later departed for Cherbourg in France. I was working the radio in the Tower when it departed, giving us a spectacular low pass on its way out to the south east.

Nice catch!
Is there any activity on one of the DC-4s? It appears to have moved away from her sister since I last visited "the Weald"

The intention is to get the MATS C54 into taxying condition, but working is progressing slowly. It was moved from its normal parking space to allow Greenpeace to assemble a giant Polar Bear, which can be seen in the early stages of assembly next to the hangar.

It is a carnival float and here is a picture of the team taking it for a walk. Its head, jaws and legs are articulated. Each leg needs two people to lift it so there is a fair amount of choreography required to move the beast around. It is steered from a platform at the rear.

The C54 does look great on the ramp!
