Fast and Loud questions

I watched the repeat of last Monday's show and was curious if anyone on here in the Atlanta area might know who the WWII combat pilot was that they bought the three cars off of?

Also, just curious as to whose hangar the Fast and Loud guys are in at the end of a couple of their shows when they are talking about what they have done to whatever the latest build was. I have seen several episodes where there are a number of WWII looking aircraft in the background. With them being in the Austin, Texas area...CAF stuff?

They are actually located in the Dallas area, and I think the hangar is Cavanaugh, but not positive.

I think the episode with the warbirds was shot at the Frontiers of Flight Museum in Dallas. I remember seeing the VC-173 "Flying Flapjack" in the background, and according to the "interweb", Frontiers is where it's currently on display. I believe the WWII vet was from the Carolinas.

I saw the episode on question, they bought 3 cars from a guy in Georgia who was a WWII vet. They showed a picture of him in a Marauder.

The museum in Georgia might have been the museum at Dobbins, but there are several in the greater Atlanta area.

As for the Texas museum, it is indeed the Frontiers of Flight museum. The Grease Monkey Garage is located near DAL (as is the Grease Monkey Bar & Grill that just opened last weekend) so it's just a few short blocks away. You can see them driving on Shorecrest Drive that runs along the north perimeter of DAL in several episodes when doing their "test drives".

Mmmmm, yessssss. The '38 Aston Martin and the Nash Healey's. The old gents's name is Robert Lee Aston and the B-26 had(partially visible) for nose art an eagle with "OLE MISS" tag. The Gas Monkey Garage...or A s s Monkey if you like the Viet upholstery lady's version.

Welcome to "Hollywood" Doug. I wouldn't be surprised if it was post-edited out by Discovery Networks. They did that with a couple other series in the past that weren't produced in-house. I was totally surprised that Air Tahoma not only got credit, but our mechanic and flight crew too for Walk the Line. Sadly, the same couldn't be said for the roles of the DGNO and Dallas Terminal Railway in Prison Break. There was a passing "thanks" in the credits of the Season 2 finale, but nothing beyond that.

Navigator Capt. Robert Lee Aston, 44th Bomb Group, 67th Squadron. B-24's with the 8-ball on their tail. He flew 35 missions some over Ploesti and he's been instrumental in getting veterams their decorations they never recieved....he pro bono's his legal services in those efforts. Neat fellow!
I've seen the photo they showed on FN'L again, and it is a B-26 he was posing in from the cockpit window.

I don't think it's just Discovery that "drops" out the mention of people cooperating in these shows. We had an episode of Georgetown Cupcake filmed at our location, and our logo was to be featured prominently in the background shots. Guess what? Nothing to be seen on the actual episode.

I learned about how real "reality" shows were. I was giving the producers a tour of our facility and they asked where the kitchen area was. I pointed it out just behind the door to the studio area where the party was taking place. They didn't like that. They preferred that the cupcakes came in from our loft area and down a darkened staircase so the cupcake people would have to "freak out" when they saw how they would do the big reveal. After that, I give none of these shows any kind of credence. If you take them for entertainment, they're fine, but they are definitely not reality.

If you follow Georgetown Cupcake (and I seriously doubt anyone on WIX actually does), it was the episode for a Sweet 16 party where they make the frosting show up under black light.

Thank you gentlemen for all of the great answers! airnutz...from what you wrote, I would love to meet this man and thank him for his service! For him to have survived more than one mission over Ploesti is nothing short of amazing!

I agree with you saxman in that FNL is for entertainment. The guys like old cars, beer and women...right up my alley
