CGI?

Something just doesn't look real to me, Oh have mercy with the music!

Yup, completely cgi.

This fellow does good work, though. Check out some of his other stuff. The Pete is my personal favorite.

It's nice CGI and I'm in the business so I'm more than familiar with the talent it takes to do that kind of computer work, but to make that type of CGI realistic, a Corsair still has to fly according to the Laws of Physics.

Nobody in their right mind would attempt a Hammerhead stall at that altitude in a Corsair. Reminds me too much of "Pearl Harbor's" F-16 like P-40's! And to top it off, the snap roll and twisting around the smoke was faster than an F4U could do in real life. It would've been a smokinig hole in the ground.

Mass and momentum always appear to take a back seat in the CGI/Effects world. That's why the new "King Kong" moves faster and quicker than a coiled Rattlesnake! Someday they'll make it seamless, but until then, I'd rather watch the real thing.
Blue skies,

By the way, the clip on his site that looks the most realistic to me is the "Merlins" one, with the Mossie and Spits!
That's very good.

Totally CGI, the smoke was'nt right, but I'd LOVE to see Howard Pardue or Vaughn Olson pull some of those maneuvers off in a real Corsair, it would be a great show! Not that they have'nt already, they both fly a Corsair with the best of 'em....

I remember a P-51 doing a hammer head at fairly low alt at the CAF show in Harlingen in the late 80s. I think it was Pete McManus (sp?) in Petie 2nd. I thought that he had lost his mind.

That looks a lot like one of the planes in one of my RC simulators. Aerofly Pro Deluxe. Check this http://aeroflypro.com/afpdpics2/corsair.jpg

You can very easily re-skin the frames and adjust pretty much the look of any planes. You also have full ability to adjust weight, thrust and balance parameters for the models. There is really funny vidoe floating around on the net of a guy flying a model 747 in full 3D mode and hovering it.

The smoke trail looks exactly like it does when I fly in the sim.

Corsair166B, since you mentioned HP and his aerobatic flights in his Corsair I thought you might like this. It's from the Kalamazoo Airshow circa 1989. Big file though, 75 mb's and 4 minutes in length.

Hi Bearfan1!

It looks like the link inside is local.

file:///D:/Aviation%20Movies/Test/ATI%20Tests/airzoo88_corsair.mpg

I messed around a little bit and came up with this,

It's downloading now.

Can't wait to see it!

i'm not a rap fan at all, but..... i thought the stunt work & music choreography was excellent. fyi....... for sh*ts & giggles.... this ought to piss off a lot of corsair buffs........ a retired u.s. navy full chicken that i know called the corsair the "ensign eliminator".. obviously he was looking for a nerve to push......... :minigun: ....... he found it!!!

You're making me wax nostalgic, bearfan! For four years in a row, OSH actually became a warbird mecca:

'92--the B-25's gathered
'93--five flyable P-47's
'94--the Corsairs return to Capistrano!
'95--150+ formation salute to the end of WWII

Hasn't been quite the same since (unless you like Mustangs).

Thanks for the memories.

Dan, I've been meaning to update the Oshkosh pages and worked on this for a while tonight making sure everything looked and worked ok. Someone on this board ( I think ) was wanting some more Oshkosh stuff so here it is. Enjoy !

To be honest without going thru the videotapes, I am not 100% sure on the years, it was either 91' or 94' and they may be mistitled, but the clips are worth watching.
