Mark tks for the link on #122! I've seen the pic on www but had no idea of its combat history. Now we all do!!

Looking at the 1st B/W picture I wanted to know its Buno if poss. The original #122 carries 2 diff set of white factory numbers. 813 & 269. Also the cockpit bomb missions are a bit different.

p.s ...and now the Igor Sikorsky question is.... what happened to this aircraft after 1946 once back in the U.S??

C13: Tks for the paper clip we are getting somewhere!!

F4U-4 "97364" is the Corsair in question that was equipped with the New Exhaust, Cowling, to be the F4U-5. The two Pitot Tube was to see if there is a different pressure on air speed during testing. The shape of the Cowling questions where asked if the air flow would change an possibly effect the air speed.

Drew, what is the date on these newspaper clippings? It might relate to the image I posted in a previous topic.
Be nice to track this baby down if possible.

Something looks a bit "off" about the color on that photo to my eye. I could be wrong but I'm going to bet it's a Photoshopped pic. Besides, a bright red restored Corsair would probably get a substantial amount of press! Looks like 97338 in the Fargo Air Museum to me, based on a few clues in the photo.

Good day!

If someone knows more details about this picture plz post. The caption says: "Mil personnel showing aircraft to locals".. something to that effect.

It is a brand spanking new F4U-1A, somewhere in the S. Pacific (New Guinea?),with very little markings, c. WW II during a local "open house." -) Photo Navy Archives.
