Looks like it will be nice. I wonder if there are any plans for eventually displaying a C-5 or VC-25 inside?

Initially plans did call for a C-5 to be displayed inside this buidling. A desicion was made a few months ago to bring a majority of the research and development aircraft over to this next building instead so they can be viewed by more people. A very wise decision I believe. A C-5 on display indoors will have to wait along with the C-17 and C-39.

The C-39 will still be outdoors? How about the C-82 and 119? Those have been outside forever.

The C-82 has been in the restoration shop for the last couple years getting a new paint job and some general sprucing up..I doubt they'd just stick her back outside, but you never know. They've changed/rearranged the new building layout multiple times, and probably will again before it's all said and done. One thing I've always liked about the NMUSAF is that every time I visit (on average once a year) there's something new or different. Looking forward to the new building..it'll be nice not having to go through the hassle of going over to the "annex" anymore. It was fine "back in the day" when you could just drive over and stay as long as you wanted, but since 9/11 you have to go through a security screening/briefing, take the shuttle bus, and you only get an hour (although the entire trip takes at least two hours out of your day.) Mind you, I understand the need for security on an active base, but it'll be nice be able to see (more or less) the entire collection without having to deal with it anymore.

I'm curious about the WWII gallery. The museum has some large aircraft still in the restoration queue (the Swoose and B-23 come to mind) and if they ever go on display the gallery will have to be expanded. I suppose they could be elevated or hung from the ceiling (although I don't know if the rafters were designed to handle that big a load) but since there are no elevated walkways or viewing platforms it makes them difficult to see.

We're going to be in Cincy next weekend and were planning a visit to the Museum...oh well. I thought about checking out the Tri-State Warbird Museum, but they're not open on Sunday.

The plan is so that no aircraft will remain outside.

If you check www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/shared/media/ ... 30-003.jpg you will see both the C-82 and C-119 will be going into the new building. The C-17 will remain outside. The C-39 is currently in storage off public display.
